Is this a worthy replacement for newTIS?
Has anyone tried to buy these Workshop Service Manual for f48 on ebay?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-X-Ser...-/114079654268 I see them selling the same for other models at £ 14 or $ 19. Are these the same instructions as on the newtis page that is unavailable? |

I bought and downloaded the version for G01. So here are my thoughts 1. It is not a replacement for newtis which was interactive. With newtis , for any part install or removal, there were smart links for preceding and following steps which could be called up and you could quickly jump back and forth. You could also call up all parts associated with a particular factory option (great for retrofits). The forced removal of newtis was a blow to owners and BMW charge for 24 hr access to BMW tis in the US is cynical but not as dreadful as no access for majority in other countries. 2. The eBay download is just a very large 1.3gb pdf document, it is searchable but unless your computer has huge ram and a very fast processor, you can sit for literally minutes before it sometimes hangs. The quality of diagram/picture scans is acceptable but not excellent but text is always easy to read. It can be used, but is only really workable by finding relevant section in the front index and then reading the section through from start to finish. The problem is that it is unwieldy and trying to move back and forth is tricky. It does however list steps in correct order and in this respect is similar to newtis. If you want to remove/replace a part it will tell you how and in what order. 3. My conclusion is that it is better than nothing, the pdf provides material for cars with build date up to 2017 and will help by listing steps and correct order for repairs. It is also useful finding out how to access a part (for example the touch controller, which is not always obvious. The diagrams are useful but some small detail can be difficult to see and finally you will have to hunt to find exact section you need. It is over-priced. 4. There are sellers with 2017 tis/ISTA but they appear to require huge download and virtual machine. This would be much better solution and not model specific. I have not tried so have not given a link. Last edited by MJE60; 02-06-2021 at 06:47 AM.. |

I bought this for US$9.99:
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/DOWNLOAD-SER...53.m2749.l2649 It is ISTA+ 1982-2017 and includes F48, which hasn't changed much for 2018+. The download is 30GB for software and data preinstalled/preconfigured in a virtual machine that can run under VMware on either Windows or iOS. |

I have it installed and working. A good document is provided with step-by-step instructions.
I.T. was my profession, so I have used VMware before. I installed on my Windows 10 laptop PC, so I am able to take it to my car, and it should have 8 GB or more memory (mine has 16 GB). The only tricky thing I dealt with is the 4K laptop screen (3840x2160 resolution), so text in ISTA+ looked tiny until I tweaked settings in the virtual machine (Windows 7). Since the database only goes up to 2017, I cannot enter my 2018 VIN for the application to decode/lookup. Instead, I just manually select the make, model and year. You can find information and images by various categories/procedures or do a search by text. I am still scratching the surface of the ISTA+ functionality. Definitely worth US$9.99. |

You can try it, but it is not worth the effort for me to save US$9.99. |

Here is a thread with links on MEGA.NZ for updated ISTA+ versions:
https://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1739583 I successfully installed the highest version v4.27.31 of data up to 2020. It accepts and looks up my 2018 VIN. |

If you follow the Setup steps precisely, you have a good chance of success. Being a computer geek, I deviated somewhat to my own liking and also made some tweeks for my laptop with 4K screen. Version 4.27.31 goes all the way to January 2021, including X1, X2, X3 and other BMW/Mini cars. The eBay version I bought previously for $9.99 USD was only up to 2017. I thought about upgrading it, but that would be almost the same effort as installing the new version and the virtual machine is still at Windows 7 (vs Windows 10 in f10.5post.com version). It may be feasible for me to upload my preinstalled and preconfigured virtual machine for others in this forum. The zipped size would be 35 GB. |

Pretty awesome piece of software! Just browsing around, gives you anything & everything you'll ever need for repairs! I ended up buying the monthly account (non-recurring) for Mega ($6usd) as trying to use the free account to download the files wasn't happening. |

I hope soon to have my self-contained VM available to other forum members. It will not be necessary to buy an account to download and then install/upgrade ISTA+ from MEGA.NZ. Stay tuned ... |

The following "BMW ISTA+ 4.27.31 Install.txt" file contains the step-by-step installation procedure and the download links. It is not necessary to download any of the ISTA or other files from MEGA.NZ. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AW-...ew?usp=sharing You can install the VM onto an external USB drive, but it will be slower than on an internal drive. Many thanks to MJE60 for testing out the installation procedure and confirming that ISTA is working. |
