Is it only my HK speakers that are crap?

I thought Harman/Kardon speakers should be high quality speakers but they rattle and rasp and just sound terrible on a 2-year old car. The passenger side rattles like crazy when it gets anywhere close to low frequency. Should BMW replace it under warranty? Would I just get a replacement? Any available upgrades on the market that are just plug and play with no mounts or special tools?

H-K speakers are very high quality. So are the hi-fi OEM, which are also Harmon designed. I've yet to see definitive data from any aftermarket sources to back up their claims of being better. Your symptoms could indicate defective drivers, so by all means you should see about warranty replacements.

No issues with my HK system on a 2016.

You’re still under warranty, get to the dealer and have them replaced.
