When i got my plate surround i actually debated this lol

Even tho the m perf carbon one was more expensive and premium i just went with the black "M\\" one

Small correction... It's ///M as opposed to M\\ Or, if you got M\\ I'm thinking you got a Chinese knockoff.

He said yes, I walked away. BMW seems to be putting an M badge on everything. Used to be that you could pay extra for something special, not any more. This, combined with that disgusting front end on the G8X, will mean that I will likely never buy another new BMW. Glad that I have one of the last truly special M3's - it better last forever.

I am 100% with you! This f80 m3 might be my last. So many M brands on everything has ruined it and the new look is just disgusting, breaks my heart
So I know what you mean… however when I got my m235 I was super excited about getting a lite variant of an M. Now that I moved to an M2C, the shoe is on the other foot and I see how it does make the M branding less special.

As cool and fun as they are, the lite versions that BMW make are definitely not in the same camp as proper Ms. from the same or even recent generations.

I am less likely to buy a future M or any BMW due to the current trend of uglification than I am due to ///M diluted cars.

I actually drive a X3 M40i and never considered it a M car.
But...I find it closer to the M3 G80 I test drove than any other "base" BMW.

I like the M3 and so, I've ordered one.
I've always debadged all my cars and I don't care about this ego-M-shit.
I drive what I like to drive. The M3 could be called the 350i, I don't care.

Definitely not, and this would really only matter to true enthusiasts since they would immediately know the difference between an "M-Sport" and a real M car.

Personally I don't think it dilutes the M brand, not everyone needs the performance of a proper M car, but they do like the styling bits

I like how everybody assumes going for M 'lite' has to do with affordability. Literally, the only reason I got M240i vs M2 is because M2 couldn't customize the interior (I wanted tan leather).

Agree. Because the M2 is not a vert as well.

Or if servicing the //M brakes were any different than servicing these (aside from unplugging and plugging in new wear sensors):

At least on the BMW you don't need to assemble and safety wire the rotors, or maybe you do on a "real" //M? Parts is parts!
Now is that considered a real Cobra? Perfect response!

The car I'm putting together was (is?) a sport, but not M. It now has a BOAT LOAD of parts from the M sport, and straight up M cars. You will not find an M badge on it anywhere, because...well, it's not.

I guess part of me thinks "Hey, I added this, not BMW" so why would I give them credit?

Reminds me of back in the day, guys would put Shelby insignia on a Mustang GT. Looked great; wasn't a Shelby. M xxx's are nice cars. But M cars have only one number after them. "M" packages or non-performance enhancing parts are a joke. But, to each his own. If you buy a 5.7 Challenger and want to put Demon badges on it, you're only fooling yourself--when you come up against a Camaro SS at a stoplight...

As long as they came from the factory..... Although I agree is lessens the true M cars, but we know the difference don't we....

Personally I think caring about badges and brands at all is what makes one philosophically inferior. The car is for you, not anyone else. I don't like words and numbers from a design perspective, so I de-badge my cars.

Try to pace me for an afternoon in the Catskills and you'll see what I'm about.

It's an M(-Performance) car cause it's by M GmbH, q.e.d.

Also, wait till you see that they've slapped M-mirrors on it!

Well, that's interesting... think I would have rather have the stock Z3. However if I ever thought about something like this I'd use a Z8 body. Kidding aside, I'm actually a fan of the high quality Cobra repros, as well as the Porsche Spyder replicas. Not really practical where I live, but if I lived in the desert, maybe.

Different, but really no different than any other replica based on a donor other than the lack of that V8 rumble. The only "real" Cobras I've seen have been in a museum, on TV, or up for auction with 7 figure sale prices.

Honestly I’ve been tempted to on this lol. Looked at a few z3s to potentially use and beats the Bugatti someone did using a mercury cougar, but the kiddo wants to build a factory 5 cobra kit from ground up one day so maybe in another 5 years we might get that started.
