Like many others, I’ve found the options for a decent phone mount to be lacking in the iX. My family are all iPhone users and have always enjoyed the convenience of MagSafe mounts. Unfortunately the ones that work in our other vehicles don’t work in the iX because of the vent design.

I really like using the slot at the front of the armrest to hold my phone, but routing a charging cable through there and remembering to plug/unplug all the time is less than ideal.

After searching through these threads and on the wider internet I ran across these plans for a 3d printed mount custom fit for the iX. Most importantly, it is also designed to fit a standard Apple MagSafe charger. *note, I can’t take credit for the design, I just found it on printables.com

I tried printing it last night, and while my print wasn’t 100% perfect, you can see from the attached pictures it does the job! Now I can just hop in the car, snap the phone to the magnetic mount and away we go.

If you have access to a 3D printer and MagSafe compatible phone/case this is a very slick solution.

I would love to use a solution like this, but I don’t want to stop using my Apple wallet, which has to be removed for any other MagSafe accessory. My iPhone 14 Pro with Apple wallet fits in that slot perfectly.

Proclip sells an iX compatible mount that clips to the dash around the vents:

You need to buy a MagSafe holder that attaches to the base. Proclip has a couple to pick from.

The way it clips to the dash it’s a lot more stable IMO. I have one in my old Acura and it’s very study. Skipped getting a mount for my iX I put my iphone in the middle console charger.

Personally I wouldn't try to mount anything near any of the titanium bronze trim. It's painted plastic and it scratches incredibly easy.

Thank for sharing the files needed to print this. I just found a company to do it and it cost about $55, delivered. I’m not 100% certain I did it right. It will be fascinating to see the final product.

Thanks for sharing. Did you use a brim and breakaway supports for the MagSafe insert space?

I ordered this from a 3d printing service online as I don’t have access to one myself, looks like it will be delivered Monday so I will post pictures then. I went with ABS and a sanded finish, and I did not order the side pieces. I also modified the design by bringing the front corners in a bit, as I read a comment that it was too wide for the iPhone 14 Pro Max in landscape mode.

Turned out great. I used the BMW-ix_iphone-magsafe-holder_v1.Stl file. Just that one and sent it to xomerty to be printed. Looks great and is very functional.

Cool. $55 seems pretty steep, but you’ve convinced me to find a vendor and try printing one myself!!

This is a great concept! I did some research to find something similar, but more esthetically pleasing, and stumbled upon this charger. It wasn't getting great reviews for being lightweight and coming as 2-piece, because its connection to the base was flimsy. But that's exactly what makes it a viable replacement for the 3d printed part.

It currently sells for $25 delivered on eBay, and includes the MagSafe components, wall brick, and even a magnetic ring that can turn your non-magsafe case into a MagSafe one. My iPhone 13 case has just disintegrated and I happen to need this exact item to make my spare case MagSafe compatible, so this is solving many problems for me at once.

I won't be able to fit it in the actual car for a few weeks, but when I can will certainly share my experience. I expect it'll need some rubber material at the base to fit snugly into the phone holder, but should be an easier DIY project than printing and fitting the stand.

I finally got mine installed, I had ordered from Craftcloud (total with shipping was around $38) and it arrived sanded but looking a little rough. I wanted it to more closely match the center console trim so used some flat black primer, and finished with some flat clear finish to give it some resistance to bumps and dings. It works great with the modified edges for the bigger camera bump on the iPhone 14 PM, happy to share the modded STL file if anyone would like it.

Just got mine printed by a friend, looks pretty nice to me and the fit is great. I’m contemplating to spray paint it to match the bronze interior trim.

Any chance you upgraded to a 15 Pro, or know someone with a 15 Pro, to know if your modified version fits? Visually I suspect the 15 Pro won’t work even with your mods, especially with a case on it because the bump is basically just outside the MagSafe marker.

I upgraded to the 15 pro max, which works just fine. Unfortunately I don’t have a 15 pro for comparison, however my wife has a 13 mini. While the camera bump on that is smaller than the 15 pro, the frame is smaller too, and it still fits (just barely) on the modified design.

Yeah it’s super strong. I have a heavy UAG case for my 14 pro max and it will hold strong.

I tried 6 different ones and this was the simplest. I didn’t opt for the magsafe charger built-in because it isn’t good for the battery and doesn’t charge fast enough especially when running Waze. Got multiple USB-C to lightning and USB-C to USB-C options from a 12V USB-C PD plug as the built-in USB-C’s aren’t PD.
