GT3, GTR, Z06 will work well with SOFL roads. Take those to North East and not so much.

Z06 will be fine in northeast with PSS tires unless it goes below 32F. I can't speak for GT3 but I know GTR is also driven a lot here in sub zero temperatures.

I'm more concerned about 'maintenance deferred' roads....

I cringe at the thought of hitting one of those in my shiny (frozen?) new M4/GTR/Z06. Tire and wheel coverage is a must I suppose.

About 88k with a reasonable 5% off MSRP, the car can be ordered from any one of my local dealers for April delivery. No hassle, no option credits, usaa, loyalty, team USA credits, holiday cash, over invoice, under invoice, or any other silly buyer inducements to worry about.

Nothing fictional about that.
Dude, you are manipulating the $$ to make your point, and even though every single person in this post has refuted you, you still insist on making the arguments. So I'll do the math.

To get an M4 to $85k, one would have to start at $64,200 and then add $20k in options. Thusly:

Base M4 - $64,200
CCB's - $7,500
Exec Package - $3,900
Metallic - $550
Driver Assist Plus - $1,900
Harmon Kardon - $875
MDCT - $2,900
Adaptive suspension - $1,000
19" wheels - $1,200

Destination - $925

Total - $84,950

So, to get a Carerra optioned in a similar manner:

Base Carrera: $84,300

Bose Audio Package: $2,120
Premium Plus w/ Power Sport Seats: $2,330
Metallic: $710
Standard interior with leather seats: $1,550
Park Assist Front & Rear: $990
Dynamic Lights: $Inc in package
PASM: $2,090
PCCB's: $8,520
PDK: $4,080
19 Wheels: INC
Power Sport Seats with Memory Package: $2,320
Carbon console trim: $630
Carbon Interior Package: $1,770
Voice Control: $595
PTV Plus: $1,490

Total: $114,495

So almost exactly $30k more, comparably equipped. YOu could argue that the Porsche could be optioned out more reasonably. And I agree. But then it wouldn't be apples to apples now would it.

Let's go a bit more luxury, without the CCB's, and without Driver assist, but adding in LED lights and extended leather:

Base M4 - $64,200
Exec Package - $3,900
Metallic - $550
Lighting Package - $1,900
Harmon Kardon - $875
MDCT - $2,900
Adaptive suspension - $1,000
19" wheels - $1,200
Full Leather - $1,100 with exec Pack

Destination - $925

Total - $78,550

Now a similar Porsche. I'll even take off the ridiculous carbon trim:

Base Carrera: $84,300

Bose Audio Package: $2,120
Premium Plus w/ Power Sport Seats: $2,330
Metallic: $710
Leather Interior: $3,690
Park Assist Front & Rear: $990
LED Headlights: $3,110
PASM: $2,090
PDK: $4,080
19 Wheels: INC
Power Sport Seats with Memory Package: $2,320
Interior Package in Leather (i.c.w. Leather Interior)
Voice Control: $595
PTV Plus: $1,490

Total: $109,610

So now the difference is over $31k.

Face it, no matter how you slice it, if you want to get the cars equipped reasonably the same, you're looking at $20k difference. To say nothing of the fact that you're down 50 HP and over 100 ft. lbs of torque. Argue all you want, you won't be right.

You're also discussing a discounted price vs. full MSRP. Which is bunk. The M4 WILL have discounts available within 6-12 months, just as the 991 does now. I'm sure when the 991 was out there was no haggling then either. So say in a year, you're taking 10% off the 991, and 7% off for Euro delivery or a combination of year end / CCA / USAA, etc. That leaves you with:

$79,003 vs. $103,495

and

$73,051 vs. $98,649

So your difference is $24k and $25k respectively.

To get a car that has less power and a lot less torque. Oh, and next to no back seat. That's a big difference to many buyers. The M4 is generally used way more day to day than the 911

Sorry, just not comparable.

I ordered a M4 with a $77,500 price and the BMW salesperson just told me the lease will be $1300/mo. I went to Porsche and they would lease me a 911 991 3.4 with PASM, PDK, 20" wheels, NAV, Bose,...., for $990/mo for 24 months with $7,000 down and no deposit. Because the M4 is new, they said they will not drop the price until goes into mass production next year. I guess the 911 makes way more sense in this case.
Why pay $1300/mo in a $77,500 car when you can get a 911 that is worth $110,000 ish for $990? 911 has less torque but does Nurburgring in 7min 40sec which is faster than M4. Lighter and better handling makes a huge difference. Really wanted the M4, but in this case the e911 makes way more sense.

The base 911 does not lap the ring in 7:40. The 911 carrera s fully spec'd out does it in 7:44 the base car is slower around the ring than the new m3 m4. Plus your putting down 7k which is a ton of money, and if equates into your 24 month lease is an extra 300 dollars a month which adds up to about 1300 a month. The new m3 m4 could be leased in the 800 dollar a month range with drive off a few months down the road guaranteed. Plus you get all your services and brakes included where as with the Porsche you don't.

Hi everyone I read every post on this thread because I am currently deciding between purchasing a certified pre-owned 911 (2013 MY either base model or S model) vs. 2015 BMW M3. The car in the running right now is a new generation 911 (certified pre-owned, base model, 350 hp) with 10k miles & has the exact same price as the M3: $ 78k.

You can get a certified 911 for about 78-85k and a nicely optioned M3 comes out to 80k. Let's throw the price argument out of the window... what I really want to know is which is more fun to drive, which is better-engineered, and what is a better value. I need your expert opinions!

Any thoughts from F80 M3 owners that you should have gone with a 911?

You can find clean 991s models for 88k and imo, even incorporating prices:

991S>m3/m4/991 base.

Garage List
I'd go for priss second hand 991S over a M4, not the base though.

Yeah I mean basically I agree with everyone's input that the 911 Carrera S is far superior to the base 911 but I'd ideally like to stay at 80 max... which brings the comparison to a new-generation (2013) base 911 vs. M3. I am leaning towards the M3 because of the practicality (4 doors, usable trunk where you can put a beach chair, luggage, or golf clubs). I know the BMW purists on this site will hate me but there's no question that the lines on a 911 are iconic and frankly unreal. It's a tough choice in my opinion... that's why I've been mentally masturbating about the decision for the past month instead of just ordering the damn car already.

Also depends on how patient you are. You can get the used 911 now, but if you order an M3 it will take months to arrive.

Depends also on what you will use the cars for. At the track I usually go to, there are always a lot of Porsches--new and old. They are just fantastic track cars and pretty stout/reliable from what I hear.

If you're concerned about buying a first year model (new M3/4), go with the 911 and see how the early adopters feel about their M3/M4 in a year or two.

Can't go wrong with either car!

I sold my 11 m3 comp pkg loaded car this weekend. Already miss it. Dealer had new m3 so I was able to spend some time with it. Looks better in person, esp the rear. While not a great design, it's passable, esp in mid to darker colors. Sides and front are nothing special to look at.
Interior was fine, seats were fantastic, same for rear seat room....much improved. Liked the steering wheel setup.
Exhaust sound was better than expected too.

I left w/o buying though. Perhaps when there is a comp pkg, better colors, smarter non gouging options/bundling and we see what tuners crank out I'll come back. Not much on the BMW lot to love to be honest. M3 is fine but not special relative to owning so many prior versions. M5 is a pig. 3 series too big and poor steering. When does the real M arrive....the 2 series is it? We tried to also buy a new x5 but sold out for the version we need. Sigh. Acura got the sale.

On to a 458 hopefully.

Also considered 991 S vs new m3. I would take the 991 all day.

Depends what you need in the car.

If you are ok w/ essentially a 2 seater, get a 911 (though I agree, spring for the S).

If not, M3/M4. I had initially planned on replacing my C6 w/ either a C7 or a 991, but gradually came to the conclusion that I wanted my next car to be a 4-door, might not be quite as fun but I'll be able to drive it a lot more including on many weekend trips whereas I had previously been forced to take the SUV.

It's not really apples to apples. The smaller car will be more fun IMO. But, the M3 I can take on a weekend trip is more fun than the 911 that would be sitting at home in my garage while I drive the 4Runner.

Yeah it seems like owners love the new M3/M4. Not sure if there are any engineers on the forum but I'm still curious how the M3/M4 compares to the base 911 from a technological/engineering standpoint. I've driven the 911 and it's magical... unfortunately I have not been able to drive the M3... hence the difficult decision.
