Technology Package
I recently purchased a used 2017 X1. I noticed when I push the bluetooth button on steering wheel nothing happens. If I long hold, my Google Assistant opens but no audible alert. When I spoke with a BMW Genius they informed me that my X1 does not have the Technology Package so I can't even make a hands free call in a BMW! This is absolutely shameful for BMW. This was a basic feature in my Civic 10 years ago. How do I get this basic feature? Is the tech package something that can be added?

After researching it seems as if this feature requires Advanced Bluetooth feature that can be turned on through programming. Bimmer-tech offers it for a fee but it can be done by someone who know how to program features.
Anyone in the Youngstown, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh area that knows how to do this and wants to earn some extra cash? |

My new-to-me CPO 2016 doesn’t have the Tech Pkg. If I push the button for 3 seconds I get an audible tone. So far the only thing I have done is initiate a phone call.
I presume we are talking about the same button? The voice activation button on steering wheel right side next to the telephone button as described on page 26 of my 2016 owners manual? https://carmanuals2.com/d/83036 Last edited by saabdrvr; 10-17-2019 at 06:15 PM.. Reason: Add information |

I learned that I had Google Assistant too locked down for privacy and that's why it wasn't working. You need to give Google Assistant FULL ACCESS to everything and now when I push the voice command button I can call and text via voice commands and it all comes through my car's speakers.
