Dead spot 2.0 Auto?

Hi

On occasion I seem to have a dead spot on my new X1, i go to pull away and there is no go, then all of a sudden it is 4000 revs and wheel spinning away. This is not always I hasten to add its very sporadic, does any one else have this issue?

Had that with my Tiguan DSG and was annoying. Thankfully not with the X1.

bluedave, I have a similar issue with my 2019 X2 (petrol, 2.0litre with 7 speed DSG).

It jumps to 4000rpm on the tacho very quickly, with lots of noise, but takes a second or so for any actual action...

Happens sometimes from standstill, but also occasionally when on the move and I need to accelerate fast with a stomp on the gas pedal.

Didn't bother checking with the dealer as of course it probably won't happen when they test drive it....

Sounds like it’s the DSG gearbox, as our 2016 20i with the Aisin 8 speed auto doesn’t do this. You should report it to the dealer as there may be a software update for the gearbox. We had an issue with a Mercedes DCT gearbox that was resolved via a software update some years ago...

7sp DSG or 8sp auto transmission?

If the latter, there's a 'reset' process to try, as follows:

1) hit start button once to turn on power (Don't start the engine)
2) then press the accelerator down to the floor for 5 sec
3) then hit start button once to turn off power
4) then remove foot from accelerator
5) then wait for 2 minutes
4) then start the engine like normal and see if that helps with the jerk and acceleration hesitation

The transmission ECU is, like most, a 'learning' unit; that is, it watches how you drive most of the time, and then develops a shift pattern to match. The thing is, that pattern will not suit a change such as a "spirited drive" when you usually engage in the afternoon commuter. The process above just resets the ECU, and lets you train it again. Worth doing every few months, in my experience.

I had a similar problem on my old freelander (which had an earlier generation 2.0d BMW engine). The problem was a faulty MAF sensor. It may we worth getting it checked. You do not say what model you have, i.e petrol or diesel, they have different gearboxes also, which might be relevant. Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Unfortunately the reset process didn't do anything on mine (7 speed DCT)...

Took the car to the dealer, but they said the 'lag' was normal for this car.

Not intended for that gearbox, unfortunately — only the 8sp Aisin auto
