looks like the 4 cylinder will be about 110 pounds less. not sure how that will translate in the real world but i remember when i had a 335i and got a loaner 328i with the 4 cylinder...the handling was noticeably better thanks to less weight up front.

i'd take the 4 cylinder emira over an equivalent cayman.
but it would be hard to pass on a cayman gts 4.0 vs the v6 lotus

can't wait to see the comparison reviews though!

I have a V070 now for the GTS 4

Where did you see official weight listings by Lotus? They have been very quiet about specs on the AMG version.

Even 100 pounds, it's not loaded over the front wheels so really, how much difference could it make? No idea why anyone would consider the 4 banger outside of price.

My thoughts exactly. More room for boost sure, and you get a DCT, but you are missing all of the noise. I never even considered the 4 cylinder. Mercedes killed the C63 also

Emira on looks.
If it sounds anything like the Evora's - Emira on sound too.
Driving ergonomics? I found the Evora headliner blocked my view of "the little things in life" like stop lights (I'm 6'2"). I drove a 2016 GT4 with sport seats - and it was perfect - great position, great view, interior much better quality.
Can you live the unknowns of not engine reliability, but rather whether your door locks will work in the rain or if the window seams might leak, etc? If that doesn't bother you, the Emira on looks, sound and similar performance - tough package to beat. If you don't mind the extra attention wherever you go, I'd go for the Emira at least to experience it - you're not going to lose significant $$ should you change your mind!
The GTS is the "safe" choice - and a very good one at that. You know what you're getting.
For me personally, I'd rank GT4 > Emira > GTS > Evora

some people just care about looking cool and going fast, they don't value the finer points of the driving experience like some of us nuts!

Screw the DCT, you don't get a manual option with the 4cylinder.

The window that shows the shift linkage is really cool.

Emira looks better but the Cayman GT4 will beat it on everything else. Resale, reliability, driving feel, etc.

This is speaking as someone who has owned a Lotus Exige S240 and currently has a GT4 + E92 M3.

GTS 4.0 is arguably the better overall car from almost every review I've found. GT4 definitely looks cooler though

The AMG engine is the M139, the same engine as in A45/CLA45. It's a fantastic torquey i4 engine with some serious top end power. A45 is an absolute blast to drive. There is no question, I would take the AMG engine plus DCT.

Ended up going with a GT4 instead of an Emira or GTS 4.0

Congrats OP. The Emira will certainly be one of the most bespoke and desirable cars ever built. But at this moment it is difficult to know how it drives, how reliable it will be its first couple model years, how to get it serviced, etc. GT4 is sick as hell and seems like the better choice until we know more about the Emira.

this

it's the uncertainty of the reliability of the emira that made me go with a GTS 4.0 (picked it over the GT4 as it will be my only car and more liveable than a GT4).

the emira might offer a great driving experience, but if it's unreliable that sours everything

if the emira proves itself to be reliable I might be a late adopter...

Reminds me of the Giulia Quadrifoglio. Very hyped car around 2016 for good reason, but massive quality issues the first 2-3 model years soured the car's reputation.

For the small boutique brands like Lotus Alfa etc., best to err on the side of caution until the kinks are worked out.

Ya, let the anxious ppl be the first adopters to work out any kinks, but it's hard to see this failing considering it's a revamped Evora plus the added $$$$ injection from Geely.

It's good for car enthusiasts that the iconic Porsche is finally getting some competition.

yeah I actually really liked that car and was tempted by it, but passed due to concerns about reliability

it was the right call
