Aftermarket Blind Spot Detection???

I always wondered if there were any aftermarket blind spot detection systems that we can install. I was able to find this:

http://www.goshers.com/radar-blind-s...m-bsds-rd1630/

Has anyone ever used/installed this on their X1 or even a different car?

Universal Blind Spot Monitor has been available for years!

#1 Buy and install a round convex stick on mirror at the bottom left corner of your driver's side mirror...$5
# 2 Put down your cell when you start your car...$0
#3 Look in the wide angle mirror B4 changing lanes! $0

Only $5 and 30 seconds install...bonus..#2 will also cure "blind spots" through the windshield, rear view mirror and the right side convex mirror as well...a win, win, win!

Old post, but since the X1 is the wife's and she misses the blind spot/lane departure that her Benz had, has anyone added an aftermarket system? I have been reading reviews on several and the one that comes back as the "best" is Brandmotion RDBS-1500.

https://brandmotion.com/product/rada...ion-rdbs-1500/

Amazon better price:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...k_ql_qh_dp_hza

It states on their site:

"Known Issue Vehicles: BMW Vehicles Equipped With Auto Start-Stop"

I wrote to Brandmotion stating that I have the auto start-stop disabled via the OBDII port/Bimmercode coding and can only activate it manually and this was their response:

Thank you for contacting Brandmotion. In regards to your inquiry, we have not tested this functionality. In previous testing, when the auto start/stop is enabled, it will cut off the speed signal to the OBD2 connector. If yours continues to do this, our system will not work. You can test this by hooking a reader into your OBD2, and seeing if the reader can detect speed.

My question: Will this work?

You can code auto stop/start to either remember last setting or be permanently off. The remember last setting is good in that is remains off unless switched back on. You could code using Bimmercode and then check if OBDii port is sending speed data or not. There are a number of scanning apps which can do this for you or If supplier is willing to send the kit you could test it as they recommend before installation.

This is how I have mine set up. What app do you suggest for checking to see if it's still sending speed data and what would tell me if it was or not? Basically, where does the app get this info?

Thanks

You can look into Torque Lite (free) or Torque Pro (paid).

Thanks. I downloaded "Lite" and connected. What am I looking for and to access? Do I need to drive around or what?

The Torque app has a speedometer, so you can see if it displays your speed with the Auto Start/Stop settings.

If you want free app you can use ‘Car Scanner ELM 0BD2” it is available on Apple App Store. You will need to connect with 4.0 Bluetooth obd adapter (same as used for Bimmercode). To connect you will need to go into app settings under connection and select 4.0 Bluetooth (it will not always show up in iPhone Bluetooth setting) . This app when reading sensors gives loads of info including speed readings. I have tested in my X3 which actually has MHT 48v systems so stop/start cannot be turned off and it works fine sending speed data.

I have previously used both Torque Pro and Car Scanner. Both can connect to the ELM327 adapter in the OBD2 port and display real-time vehicle speed.

I tested in my 2018 X1 F48 with Auto Start/Stop disabled (using button next to the ignition button) and both Torque Pro and Car Scanner displayed the car speed while I was driving.

I have the auto park feature with the extra sensors. Why didn't BMW use these for a blind spot detection system? And the next questions...can they be?
