Cruise Control Speedo indicator

What is the purpose of the marker that zooms up to the speed you set your cruise control?

I figured that when you stepped on the brake, it would stay where the cruise was set so that when you pushed the resume button it would accelerate to the marker. Instead my marker goes to zero and then zips back up after resuming.

There's no real reason for it. Just like there is no real reason to have a start button.

You can also check your speed on the display by pressing the resume button when cruise is enabled. Not sure about Nav ... don't have it.

To confuse the crap out of you so that you stare at it and try to figure out why it exists and while doing so you run into the back of another car and wreck your car bad enough to buy a new BMW and increase sales.

That's right folks, it's an evil sales trick.

1. If you didnt have the indicator zoom up to your set speed, there would be no other indicator to let you know the cruise is on.
2. If the thing didnt go back down when u stepped on the brakes, you know some idiot would think the cruise is still set.
In reality its all done for safety. There are ALOT of idiots in the world, hence cars have become 'almost' idiot proof.

Nothing can be idiot-proof because idiots are so ingenious.

So I guess you'd rather have some idiot ram you when you hit the brakes hard in an emergency stop?

The start/stop keeps people (the ones that probably shouldn't be anywhere near a BMW) from re-starting a running engine, killing their starter motors, and possibly worse.
It helps control the timing between the startup of all of the cars components vs a direct mechanical linkage.
How would comfort access work without a start button?

These would probably be a good feature if anyone else on the road had any idea what it mean when the extra light came on. As it is I could see the guy behind you thinking to himself "what is wrong with that guys break lights" a second before plowing into the back of you.

such clever remark!

the adaptive brake lights, which only comes on when the ABS is engaged, would only matter if the other drivers know what the heck they are, and that they only come on during hard braking.... do you know every single safety features of every car out on the road today?

...except that even my 2000 e46 wouldn't let you do this. Couldn't go from "on" position to "start" without going back to "accesories" (or whatever those wiley Germans call it)

What I said. I've been rammed twice from behind. Once mild ($444), and once wild ($10,000)! Adaptive brakelights mean nothing to the guy who is looking out his side window when he runs into my BMW.
