Slightly annoying: Cannot use just the last-7 of the VIN for lookups anymore

I was checking for recalls and iDrive updates and looks like BMW is now asking for the full VIN instead of the last 7.

https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html
https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html

Not quite the end of the world, but now I need to fetch my registration or something to get the full 17 digits.

I’ve never had any part of my VIN memorized. I always get marketing emails from my BMW dealer’s service department with my full VIN at the very bottom. So all I need to do is find one of those emails and copy and paste.

Or you could just look it up in the connected drive app if getting off the couch is that much trouble.

You can enter your last 7 digits into a vin decoder and then you can copy and paste the full vin. Easiest that way if you dont have the full vin on you.

What can I say? I'm too incredibly lazy to memorize an extra 10 digits. I'd rather use that mental capacity to read my speedo and use my turn signal.

I just wrote all my VINs down on a Word .doc. I keep it on the desk top... cut and paste... Simple solution.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Just look at your insurance card instead. I have one in my wallet.

I keep my vin in the notes on my phone. Just look it up and copy/paste when needed.
