Hi, hoodoo!

I'm attaching the ISTA+ manuals on how to disassemble the side mirror, either complete or just a part (mirror or cover). If you need to remove it completely, you need to remove the door's trim as well.

IMO, choosing from original vs. aftermarket will depend on the type of mirror. If you have multiple options on it, I should stick to the original.

I think to note, if you get the BMW one it should be color painted to your car. If you get aftermarket, however, you might be able to buy an entire set for the same price? You might need some specialty torx bit sizes, if I recall replacing portions of my '16 x1 there were a few crappy screws that were a weird size. They also were almost impossible to get out, so if you are ordering pieces make sure you get extra screws.
