As far as I know BMW sued the shipping company and its an ongoing legal battle so thats why these cars remained untouched in that yard. That's the only explanation that makes sense to me.

If I remember correctly, don't these units eventually have to be destroyed? They're technically unsafe to drive and any parts that you could get from them are either outdated or ruined from the moisture. I'd be curious to see if the units can have all the harmful parts taken out and use the shells to make artificial reefs. They've done that with decommissioned NYC subway cars over the years.

This is human stupidity at high level.
Use costly resources to build some very expensive cars that by some poor and lack of realism judgement can not be used? What a stupid thinking. We use cars that posed a risk for safety and environment 10 years ago and they are still on the streets today. All this is nothing to do with reality or safety. Is all about money money and money. |

So I called ADESA Vancouver.. the VERY nice gal on the phone laughed and said yes, she has had a TON of phone calls just like mine.
Zero info, they dont have any info on what is going on with the cars, or what could be done with them. She said that they are asking for status, so they can provide it, but no window of time for updates or way to get it other than call them.

There is a financial aspect to this problem. It does cost money to store these cars. Not all facts are known at this point.
Regardless ... these pictures are quite sad. |

No because the fear (from BMW) is that the cars will be cleaned and sold with rebuilt titles and some unsuspecting person won't know the car is not factory fresh. There would be no warranty. When something fails, regardless if someone gets hurt, they could be open to lawsuits and bad PR. They would rather just write it all off and avoid the hassle as that's what the insurance is for.

So the storage company says not all cars are bad.
BMW says all cars are bad (not even fully examining) I would sign an agreement with BMW and take one with a chance! I would happily pay the price after depreciation + salvage |

When Dieselgate happened, VW put all those returned VWs in a desert. At least dry climate help preserve the vehicles. Out in temperate rainforest Vancouver.... these BMWs will not have a chance. |

You can probably just wash off most of the dirt and they will be like new. It hasn't been long enough for them to rust through. Can also be salvaged for parts. The fixes that caused the recall don't seem to be hard to fix so not sure why they didn't just fix them.
