disappointing race against mercedes c280 today

We were both on the highway for a while and finally came across an open stretch. He was in front of me and we both had to wait to get into the right lane. Once there was an opening, he floored it and went and then i floored and went right behind him and I was already behind by 2 car lenghts. We were both going about 60 before that. After that he stayed in the right lane and i cut back into the left and very slowly caught up to him and then by the time we reached 120 mph, i was only about 1/2 car length ahead. Was it just because he was in front and launched first? I kept thinking to myself that he launched 1 sec before me and its very hard to make up that distance with 2 similiar cars, even though i still did, esp cause i checked the website and the c280 is rated at 6.9 to 60. But still makes me wonder how fast the C350 must be.

c350 should be same with 330, c280 should be almost same with 325, c230 have only 185 hps, so slower than 325. that's what I think, don't take my word if it's incorrect.

The C350 can run from o to 60 in 5.5 according to MB spec.

Yeah i think you are correct. At first i was really baffled and thought the c280 was a 8 or high 7 second car. But i was confusing it with the C240 which they discontinued and now the 8 second C class is the C230. When i came home i realized that the c280 is no slouch at all so with the headstart i guess it sort if makes sense. I still caught up and passed him even if it was very slowly. Btw I never bothered to even consider the C class. How does it drive? Esp. the C350?

I use to have a C230...thing was slow, the C350 on the other hand is pretty fast, but 330I handles better.
One thing I have to give a to the C class is how smooth it is when your going 100+ ... is like you're cruising @ 60mph
Oh...make sure you dont run in to some debadge AMGs...you'll get owned

I was actually on a racetrack with among others a new boxster S, cayenne turbo S (520 hp), C5 vette, M3 (e36 and E46)

I was absolutely stunned how the boxster and even the vette hardly pulled on me at all down the front straight (a run in 3rd from about 40-115 in my car Z4)

The M3's were downright slow out there, I know I'm not a great driver and there were plenty M3's out that day.

Handling trumps HP all day on a racetrack

Not sure if you refer to the current 2006 model C280 W203,
If so, it is 3 litre V6 with the new 7G Tronic transmission.
In this, it is not that slower than 330i.
Does not sound like it is a debadged AMG C55 though. otherwise...

Who cares about going straight?
Take both cars on a road course and see what happens...
0-60 times are way to over stressed sometimes when performance chatter is brought up.....

As always with these little "encounters" people have on public hwy's, there are a # of factors which have more effect on whether or not u "won"/"lost" other than the cars involved.
The no#1 biggest factor is how far are you willing to push your car. If it's dumping the car into a lower gear and run at redline, you WILL beat almost anything out there since the other driver most likely isn't willing to do the same to his beloved daily driver.

That's what makes these things soo stupid. It NEVER proves anything. You don't win an accolades, medals, or significant $$.

Check the 60-120 times of the two cars, should not use 0-60 time.
