How do I get the foglights to come on automatically with the headlights?

Does anyone know how to automatically get the foglights to come on with the headlights on a 2017 Bmw X1? I have to manually click the foglight button for them to turn on. I want them to come on with my normal headlamps.

Can't be done.

Not sure if a coding option exists but last time I was in BimmerCode non expert mode I didn't see it.

It's illegal in most European countries including Germany to have them auto on or on when no fog exists so that could explain why.

In most states and most provinces in Canada too. Technically you're not supposed to use them unless the weather is bad.

I don't have them come on automatically with headlights, but I did code them to remain on with high beams and to turn them on without turning on the headlights. I also installed LED bulbs that match the LED headlights perfectly

Same in the UK. In fact, in the UK the foglights are used as auxiliary lights when travelling at low speed around tight corners to give additional illumination.

For instance, if you going around a tight left-hand bend the left-hand one only illuminates. Once the car is straightened up, the fog light that has functioned turns off automatically. This only happens when the main lights are switched on.

This was the plan. Get LED bulbs to match the headlights. Gives extra light. But want it to come on at the same time as the headlights.

Thats interesting, but the cornering lights on my 2018 X1 are incorporated in the LED headlights, with a small, but effective, additional reflector on the inner corner of each light unit. The (halogen) fog lights don’t come on at all. In fact, I’ve hardly used them anytime. Perhaps the current updated cars LED fog lights are much better.

You could of course be correct. Mine is a late 2020 LCI M Sport (built 9th September 2020) with the adaptive LEDs and my dealer said on the handover on 30th September it was the fogs that came on during tight cornering. He could have been totally wrong. I was just repeating what he said. It is very difficult to check this out oneself. Mine has the flat LED fogs, not the round ones. I will now have to read the manual.

Definitely correct and it’s worth pointing out that not only do the cornering lights come on individually, depending on whether I’m steering left or right, but if for example I’m reversing on my drive when it’s dark, without turning the wheel, both come on simultaneously to give the widest possible front light spread. Also, if I’m driving into my garage, I only have to turn the steering wheel very slightly and the appropriate cornering light will come on.

This was a total nuisance for me as well coming from my old car that had a manual fog light knob I permanently left in the on position

I coded this when I got my car (2020 LCI X1 M Sport) and recoded it again a few months ago after an ECU/iDrive update reset all of my codes

BimmerCode Expert Mode for F48 X1

FEM_BODY 3063 MAPPING _ NEBELSCHEW _ L _ function value 3
FEM_BODY 3063 MAPPING _ NEBELSCHEW _ R _ function value 3

The default for both options is 8 I believe.

After coding this, whenever your headlights are on (not DRL), your fogs will be on. I lifted this from an F30 forum long ago.

I totally love the look! PM me if you have trouble!

Curious, do the fogs turn off when your high beams are on?

On my e36 and e90 I wired both to only have angel eyes plus fog lights. That's my fave look.

I tried and this does not work on pre-LCI. I have a 2017. The default is 08, but what it did after setting value to 03 was disable the fogs altogether. They would not come on in any position or pushing the fog button.
