Unit installed! Thanks again for the helpful installation steps and tips.
The only issue so far was a ‘no signal’ error from the original HU, the issue was the cable not being fully locked in. The harness connector is tight and the lever lock a bit tricky to connect . I have connected the AUX cable but later found out that sound works even with the AUX cable disconnected. I have installed Amazon Music, Spotify, Here and everything seems to be ok. The GPS antenna was mounted next to the center speaker under the dash cover, signal seems to be ok. Backup camera is working better than expected. Next step is coding the native display size to 10.25, I’m also considering a DVR USB camera. Last edited by pj74; 03-30-2019 at 11:02 PM.. |

Thank you for sharing, much appreciated. I could do with help from Panos to fit reversing camera. Next time if possible could you show how wiring is fitted from dashboard all the way to tailgate camera? Thank you Greek X1 owners club

X1 is easier and no need to take some of the panels/trim off. I will post a picture later indicating the main difference in the cable routing. At the dash, the wiring is coming from the HU -> to the fuse box in the glove compartment -> floor. Power is coming from the HU (harness) and not from the reverse light. |

A big thank you pj74 for taking such time to show wiring route. I really am very grateful. If I am able to return the favour in any way please just ask. Thank you again.
I really like your install, the 10.25” screen really is impressive. After you have had the chance to road test and explore the android unit. I would love to read a review of fav features, best aspects, things which perhaps could be better. It would also be great to understand the overall gain for an upgrade from sat nav HU and 8.8” screen. Many cars in Europe and around the world have smaller 6.5” screen which really lets the car down. I know our friends in Greece get a significant gain from the android install due the crazy tax system making oem sat nav unaffordable and would love to read U.S perspective to build on what PurePulse64 wrote earlier. OWhhhhh - Just re-read your earlier post where you said you were updgrading from 6.5” - is that right. I thought all US X1 had “Nav plus” as standard? Thanks again everyone. One of the great things about the forum is seeing and reading how people are undertaking d.i.y installs, in many cases for the first time. I fitted a new screen, touch controller, led light strip and better speakers in my X1. I have also done coding but have to be honest and admit I was really nervous the first time I started pulling away trim on my “new” car. The last time I did anything similar was 30+ years ago with my first car “an old clunker” when I upgraded the audio. Luckily today we have YouTube and helpful forums with generous people sharing their knowledge. Best wishes. Last edited by MJE60; 04-02-2019 at 03:28 AM.. |

I’m just trying to help a little bit after all the great help and tips that I’m getting from this Forum – thank you too! My original screen size was 6.5" with no backup camera or GPS. The 10.25 screen is great but the backup camera was the main reason for this upgrade - There are lots of kids in my neighborhood and I also park in a busy place at work. Some (minor) issues: - Amazon Music keeps prompting me for credentials and asking for app authorization. Root cause: The WiFi Mac address keeps changing and the Amazon device ID is based on it. No Solution yet and the workaround is re-authenticate. - Google Maps/Here Maps: bad quality mono sound coming from the left speaker. Fix: Updated the screen size + wide screen using E-Sys. Set the OEM HU to split screen mode. - Not able to change the default music and DVR apps. Possible solution: tasker or automate. - iDrive controls not working with Amazon Music/Spotify (skip forward or back on songs). The unit isn’t perfect and it won’t be. It simply impossible to be 100% compatible with all Android apps that are mainly designed for phones. Overall I’m pretty happy with all the benefits and new possibilities that I have with this unit in my X1. It is well worth the price |

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if there is an Android 8.1 10.25" screen that works with an already installed touch OEM screen like the one in the below link? https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=m04ghquxiII It seems like AVIN etc. all say that the screen only works with if an NBT EVO Touch screen is already installed? My main demand is to use the cars current wireless functions (calls, bluetooth music, phone charging, ID controller) and other map functions as Waze etc. as the 6UN map I currently have installed is simply not intelligent enough.. I would prefer just to upgrade my 6.5" to an 8.8" OEM screen, but I have no insight into whether BMW is going to fix the 6CP issue that many people have and therefore not sure if its money out of the window..? |

If you're trying to get Apple Carplay installed you could try the bimmer-tech carplay adapter. It uses the OEM screen (I'm not sure if it would work for touch input though) |

Just an update for those curious or using the AVIN Head Unit. I ended up installing a different android launcher. (Nova) I find it useful, so far, I have the weather displayed, shortcuts to spotify, waze, and CarPlay, also added Spotify controls, feels like its a bit more useful than the default 'screen' -- I'll take some photos and share it later.

Thanks for your reply. My main issue was that none of the android screens seems to fit the x1’s that have an OEM touch screen installed. At least I have not found one company saying that the android 10.25” is installable in a car with 6.5” or 8.8” OEM touchscreen. Neither does bimmertechs apple CarPlay wired solution work for those systems, at least that was what they told me. So if anyone knows different please let me know. Thanks |

The bimmertech apple CarPlay solution doesn't replace the screen, its plugged into the rear behind your OEM HU and is 'between' your HU and the Screen. -- You should be able to keep your OEM Screen but may not be able to use the touchscreen for Apple CarPlay (Original OEM services would still work with the touch screen) |

Quick update: Today I ran ISTA+ and saw a fault memory in the HU-B module. The ECU was reporting an existing code B7F8C3 "Connection, headunit to CID:No Communication". I have deleted the fault memory but it came back as active. No big deal as the CID was removed

The issue is not keeping the OEM CID or not. Apperently the headunit from the touch CIDs are not functional with the Android or Bimmertech's apple carplay MMI. Im told both only work with Entrynav or NBT and apperently I dont have any of those, though I cant find anywhere what I have then.. My Bimmercode App said EVO when making a few coding changes to my headunit. But whether that is true I dont know.. Any advice on how to see what system I am running, what be appreciated. Cheers |

Most 10.25 android units for the F48 are designed to work with Entrynav and not ENTRYNAV2. You can confirm absolutely which HU you have by looking at software version in the Nav menu of the map includes “route” in the description you have ENTRYNAV if the map description includes word “way” then you have ENTRYNAV2. Entrynav/Entrynav2 HU have skins which mimic the display layouts of NBT and NBTevo HU. Most if not all ENTRYNAV2 HU have NBTevo skins (NBT = next best thing and evo = evolution). Early Entrynav HU have , I am informed, nbt4 skins and later Entrynav have nbt5 skins. Entrynav HU have ARM chips and tougher security than intel driven NBT/NBTevo HU which is why there are no 3rd party fsc codes available to load features such as CarPlay. I have not been able to confirm but am told some very early production F48 may have been installed with NBT HU For NBTevo HU your F48 would have to have s609 professional Nav and have been build for following markets (Russia, Japan, Taiwan or possibly China). As ENTRYNAV2 HU only started being installed from 08/2017th9s is why the aftermarket android units have not yet caught up. I would imagine Android units for ENTRYNAV2 will become available in the next few months, they have just started to appear for 8.8 display reversing camera retrofits. ENTRYNAV most will have nbt5 screen layout https://www.google.com/search?client...isplay&sbfbu=1 ENTRYNAV2 will have NBTevo screen layout https://www.google.com/search?q=entr...GRc-uDQiURlDlM Last edited by MJE60; 05-04-2019 at 06:48 AM.. |
