Hi there you North American guys, this seems a lot of work for maps if I'm not mistaken are 2 years old out of date. In the Uk we're on 2021 versions not sure which issue. Updates are normal mirrored which ever region your in. Downloaded my last free update in September 2020 to my 2016 model. Not worth paying for more updates for a couple of years as the changes and amendments are minimal. I've just had an idrive software update to 2021 due to the idrive continually crashing. I haven't had chance yet to check which map variant i now have, just happy to have the idrive working again.

It is normally dealer dependant on whether you get an update. The best thing to do is check the version in iDrive.

Does anyone know if you have Europe maps already load in your nav can you just upload US new maps to over write the Europe maps. X1 is a US spec.

You need special FSC code to do that

Don't mean to question, but I'm surprised no FSC unlock code is required. (my f10 NBT unit with NEXT maps required it)

I would hate to update and then be locked out of the navigation.
Can anyone confirm you can roll back to previous version if FSC is req'd, but not entered.

That will not happen. An FSC code (if needed) is asked for prior to any data being started to be uploaded. In other words, it is the first logical step in the system.

It all depends if your FSC is valid for the exact map version.
There’s no something like map data without FSC check…

Thanks, I updated to 2019-1 w/o having to enter any FSC.
According to post#81, BMW has a three-year FSC, so my 2017 (2016-08 build) should be able to update to 2020-1 w/o a code req'd.
I have 2020-2 downloaded, i could try.
But if it messes up, it's the wife's car, I'll get messed up...! lol...

It's North America ROUTE, so if i'm staying with the same map region i should be ok as well..?

Depends if FSC is still valid for your map.

I’m not quite sure what you mean in the post but, for what it’s worth, following the end of the 3 year map update period included with my 2018 X1 (F48) from new, I subscribed 3/21 to a 1 year Connected Drive Store update package that included, amongst other things, the facility to update maps for USB install via BMW Download Manager app. The latest update released for Western Europe, including the UK, is Version Europe Way 2021-3, which I downloaded and installed a couple of weeks ago.

Please read the post it refers to. Do not take it out of context. There was a problem with the iDrive software in this case and everything had to be reloaded and if a complete update was done then it depends whether the dealer was benevolent or not in supplying a map update.

I verified today that NA 2020-2 asks for a code BEFORE updating.
That being said, does anybody have a NA Route 2020-1 map available to download?

Hi just wanted to say thank you so much. I finally got this work on my 2017 X1 BMW (with the small screen). I updated from the 2017 Route version to 2019 Route version you have linked. I did have to download a compressed file extractor for 7zip files which I got from the Microsoft Store for free, called 7-zip. I did struggle to get the car to read the USB but I think my biggest mistake was to copy the entire main folder over (NAVD_00001DDE_255_004_186) to the USB which didn't work, someone posted not to copy the main folder, just what is in it, so once I just copied the 4 files under it (1, config, ENTRY_NAV.pkg, ENTRY_NAV.pkg.sig) it worked right away. I also did format the USB to NTFS but I did not try FAT32 with the 4 files because it worked with NTFS setting I already had, FAT32 with the 4 files may work for other people. I hope this helps others and thanks again!

Thanks! Was able to download it and got it to read in the car but its asking for some type of a password?

I assume you mean it is asking for an activation code, not a password. PM sent.
