M35i brake rotors sizes

Hi guys..so I didn't think it would be so hard but.. I'm trying to find out what I can fit here.

1) my brake pad service went off but I can't reset it..so maybe the sensor is actually tripped vs the time. I have 1200 miles so I'm still ok waiting a little bit.

2) I have the hawk ceramic pads ready to go but in November when i swapped to winter tires it looked like lots of meat.. so oh well I just do the swap.

3) I'm thinking of going with something cool like the drilled slotted and there are plenty of cheaper options that I've used in the past but almost no vendors actually listed the m35i as available which is a pain.

Fcp euro lists oem and Zimmerman IN EITHER 330x24 or 360x30. ALL other manufacturers such as ebc list 330x24 and a lot of places like powerstop, r1 concepts just say fronts are not available. I can't measure unless I take it all apart which I'm avoiding so I was hoping to gather info on the net. I tried a visual measurement app and I do see that it's larger than my x1 so I'm hoping it's the 360x30 which is true but.. very difficult to get those units in paying $400+ for a set which is crazy.. it looks like I can get x5 or other rotors which are the and 360x30 and those are very reasonable skins around $100 a pop (or maybe 250 a set)

Help? Or I might just throw on the pads and take one off to measure and not do anything for another year or two... or not even bother measuring and call it a day.

Please let me know what you find. I should've measured it in December when I did the front pads. I wasn't even thinking of replacing the rotors yet. But next change, I'm pretty sure they'll be done and need replacing.

I keep seeing 330x24 on different sites as well, but even they have been wrong. FCP listed pads as fitting the x2 m35i rear which I bought and when I went to do the pads, they were the wrong pads. Even the dealership said they needed a few days to order the correct pads for the rear.

I ran into the same problem. I ended up buying oem front rotors for $188 each online.

So I did a little more sleuthing based upon the BMW part number.. it does indeed show up on the BMW service department as compatible and finally found a place that had the description as the 360x30. It is funny as it says even the X1 with the sport brakes.. however I have an X1 msport but there are certainly no msport brakes and it comes up the same..I'm still scratching my head at this point. Next task is to actually find some of the nice drilled/slotted rotors that are indeed 360/30. I may actually even see if I can fit my caliper in between my wheels to see how thick the current one is. I imagine i would have thicker than 24 still .. and if it is less than 24 then that means I probably started with the 330x24 ? Sounds reasonable? Hmmm...

Guess what..30mm on the m35i and 24 on the x1 28i... so I'm convinced now I'm going to get some 360x30.. now to convince/ find a vendor to sell something else compatible for me.

I'd need to go out and measure for size, but I want to say Zimmermann rotors are freaking awesome. Strongly recommend them. And never mind the drilled/slotted, they're a bling thing IMO.

It's a personal preference for me with the drilled/slotted. Not only do I love love the look... it does bite faster in the rain and almost NEVER have brake pad deposit (which some call rotor warpage). On larger and heavier cars... say even the family minivan this pedal pulsing always comes back within a year or so with the flat discs, but when I used any of the combo between drilled/slotted or both, the rotors get to live their life out a few years with none of this happening. On my 5 series I also experienced this after about 2 years, and when I swapped to the latter it never came back.

So.. I'm on the prowl for a nice set and.. now my counter says 900 miles to go. I still have a spare sensor from the X1 kit I did years and years ago on my wife's car so I'm just assuming it's the same sensor. I guess it doesn't hurt for me to check while I'm at it.

Very weird.. the part #'s don't come up so easily (eg on fcp euro) But on bimmerworld the sensors come up as the same compatibility.

Ok so I had an emergency stop situation and the miles left to service took a dive.

I've been emailing all the vendors for rotors slowly with no replies at all. I've confirmed that the rotors look to be the 360x30mm. By tape measure it was 14 1/4 inches which with some variance of be not being able to measure it flat it converts to 360mm! I do wonder if 370 would fit..5mm more might actually clear the caliper (and this is the assumption the hub is the same) but.... for now I just say I'll upgrade whenever or if it's available. The pads I got a while back do fit perfectly. Pst 17-1875 powerstop ceramic z17 pads.

Brake pad sensor is a real pain to get to. The plug is actually under the fender liner so I had to pry it back and stick my arm in to get it loose while blind. Even after unbolting a lot of things it didn't fold out nicely.

The sensor is often reusable, just leaving it in place, or carefully sliding it off and back on to the little notch. The rear sensor is super-trivial to connect, in any case. Really it's just an electrical contact, it triggers on closeness. If it hasn't touched, and the wire is clean, it's perfectly ok to leave it.

I changed my pads last fall to install ceramics and slightly regretted not doing the rotors. They were pretty uneven for a thousand miles or so, but they've smoothed out and in any case stopped great.

I'd look for figuring out the cross to Zimmermann brand, but I bet the BMW OEMs are already those. Or just as good.

Definitely reusing the sensors is great.. I did in fact manage to wear my pads down significantly this winter (probably because of a few close calls and full on the brakes like the other day). The little nub got worn down on my sensor.. but luckily enough, my sensor I got for my wife's X1 was still sitting in the box and it was the same plug (I reused the wife's sensor as it never tripped).

Zimmerman has been an OEM BMW supplier for decades, so it is pretty much what we have. I was getting a lot of mis-information as some sites listed the zimmerman replacement for the m35i yet it said 330mm.. Definitely definitely we need the 360X30 to maximize the brakes! Sure.. you could fit the smaller one on but that would be such a downgrade!
