Dumbest panic-buy?
I stumbled across a ‘dumbest panic buy’ thread on twitter, and I was in tears by the time I got to the end of it.
So, what have you bought that is ridiculous? I have been buying only what I normally buy, just an extra one of it here and there. Anyone on here getting silly? |

Alcohol, specifically beer ant tequila. Bought twice my normal quantities, which really isnt that much.
I saw a guy at the gas station (as I made a beer run) taking all of their bottled water and putting it on the counter. Was probably 40 bottles deep at the time, and he was sprinting across the store and holding as many as he could in his arms. I couldn't help but laugh... |

A couple jars of peanut butter to put in the dogs Kong toys... I can confirm that hoarders/preppers definitely prefer creamy peanut butter over crunchy! Plenty crunchy left on the shelf but got one of the last there jars of creamy.

I’ve seen some insanity too, people with cases of toilet paper at costco.
People are buying all the fresh everything, i wonder what percentage of this panic bought stuff is going to go to waste. People buying 20lbs of flour that probably use about 3 cups a year making cookies, they’re it going to know what to do with it It’s also interesting to see what’s left on the shelves, the stuff people just don’t want (canned green beans and garbanzo beans), and the stuff they don’t know how to cook (while chickens), |

A friend of mine in Germany says the TP panic has hit there as well. Such an odd thing to worry about.

Not really a panic buy but my wife thinks it was stupid. Went to Costco and was eyeballing big boxes of Rice Krispie treats but resisted the purchase. Went back to Costco a second time a couple of days later and gave in. So we have a big box of Rice Krispie treats on the kitchen counter since the box is too big to really put anywhere else.

My wife witnessed two women get into an altercation over spaghetti sauce yesterday. One woman (a) had like 20+ jars in her cart, another woman (b) called a manager. the manager told her that she couldn't take all of that.
They proceed to argue for a few minutes when woman (b) grabbed a couple of the jars from the cart and said if I can't have them...you can't. She then threw the jars on the floor busting them. At that point woman (a) states that if she couldn't keep them...no one was getting any and starts busting jars. My wife said they probably broke 10 or more jars before the manager could get them to stop. At that point...both women ran out of the store leaving their carts in the aisle and a big mess. I told my wife if she sees stuff like this again, just to keep moving. No sense in watching stupidity and if they were that crazy....no telling where it could lead to.

I have a friend (proud that he is has no health insurance) that hoarded powdered eggs, ramen noodles, and industrial-sized cans of Spaghetti-O's before he went into hiding because he has no health insurance. He already regrets his decision, and is afraid to leave his house. Don't think that the idea of pulling into his driveway and munching down a big ol' burger with my car windows closed hasn't crossed my mind. That's what friends are for.....

Read your post about your wife’s issue and I did look it up. Damn, that’s terrible. Hope her condition wasn’t a severe case and that she’s fully recovered or doing so. Best wishes for her.

IDK if this is dumb, but it's definitely not important stuff.
Wife and I got some of our favorite candy to munch on. We don't eat candy very often and just wanted a bit of high fructose sweetness to enjoy if we have to hunker down. Swedish Fish for me and Mike and Ike's for Wifey. |

I feel a little dumb but I bought a plate carrier and some mag pouches for it. I have honestly wanted one for a while and my buddy that works for 5-11 hooked me up. I also bought a couple boxes of rubber gloves. Not to horde but because I am worried people are going to start hording them and I use them a lot.

Since all the state liquor stores are now closed, I got some booze. Can you call that a panic buy? I never stocked a bunch of liquor before b/c not alcoholic so...
I don't like to run out of things & may have some OCD so I already had everything I need on hand. Just got a couple normal things I needed regardless. Now I can stay home for a while unless we get some nice weather, I can take the MSM out for a top down drive & not stop anywhere. Don't forget to fill your gas tanks! |
