e90 Test drive
Hello,
The clips are just about a test drive on a public road. Real environment in general at night time with mixed type of cars. Music on at around 30db for simulation purpose. Aircond on. Weight carried around 60Kg at the trunk. No passenger. No exiciting show, no gusting others. Drive safely. Straight run with non sharp curves. Speed varied from 0 - 200 depending on traffic. The camera was tied up to the driver seat, and it followed the car movements. Need little imagination when viewing. The body and eyeballs will shake that way. *The posted title is a kind of misleading. I tried to edit, but it did not change. Dont know why. Sorry. downloadable at ftp://ftp.kvsinter.com/pub/BMWE90 Last edited by Thavee; 01-08-2006 at 01:34 PM.. Reason: prevent misunderstanding |

Not bad. How did you mount the camera? Was it on the seat? Which expressway was that??

Above Bangna-Trad? Did they ever link up the Bangna end with anything? It was such a hassle going from the other expressways onto the elevated road. I haven't been back for a few years and haven't heard anything.
I used to take my ES300 on the Don Muang tollway whenever I was feeling bored .

a synopsis for those of you that haven't watched the video yet, since it's 214MB in size.
caution <SPOILER ALERT if you read on> the whole film is about 13mins in length, it's about as interesting as watching the paint dry. The whole time we're watching the speedo. I started the clip, anticipating something FUN, watched it for 1 min of the speedo, left to cook dinner, came back after 2min, still the same, haven't hit 200km/h yet, went to check on my dinner, came back, same thing, finally after 6mins, the speedo hit 200. yeah, woo-hoo! and it's the same shit after that, I FF the film, just the speedo, more speedo, and you guess it more speedo. So if you've just painted your house and need some relief from the boredom of watching it drying.... don't watch this film, just go out and drive your new E90. |

Sorry if this clip has disappointed some of you. Like I said. It was a test drive. Please do not anticipate fun by just looking when it pointed to 200. My civic 1600 VTEC could do that too. A Photoshop touch up can also do better. The clip might not be so clear, so you did not see the road ahead.
Test drive is not just the top speed but acceleration between gears and manuvering on the real road surface. I understand how you feel. It was like looking at a colorful menu in a restaurant, but I was the one who had dinner :-) Again, sorry to waste your time. |

haha, man, now I feel bad since you've replied in such an eloquent manner I misunderstood the title, I thought it was gonna be a video showing high-speed driving. Just my suggestion, if you wanna do a test-drive type video, it'd be cool to have a passenger in the car holding the camera, alternating the angles between you/road/gearknot/speedo...etc, |

It is my false. I apologize for not making my post clear to all at first.
Actually, I never trust the test drive video clip provided by the manufacturer at all. When I do the test drive I will always look for "the level of confidence I can rely on this car at any speed on real traffic and daily roads" Not just the engine horse power, not straight run, but head lights, brightness of turning signals at highspeed, steering response, brakes response, Engine brake, areodynamics, and others in combinations. For examples, 1. How would the car reacted when it went over 160 and passed by other cars? Normally, the cars would be a bit swing when the turbulences in between were impacted, or how the car behaved when it ran over the slow down waring white strips on the road at 200. 2. Was the Xenon lights good enough at that speed level? 3. Switching CD Track at high speed? Safe enough? (I didn't try though. It could be either I was too yellow to do that or the car did not make me feel secured enough to do that) 4. and others... Please notice the car was in a hydroplan state (sorry for my english, not sure if i used the correct word) and the nose was a kind of bumping up and down/left and right at high speed when switching the lanes. There was one shot that the RPM dropped to around 4xxx-5xxx at 200. Speed was a kind of a bit dropping too. That was the result of shifting from M5 - M6. The car lacked of power, and I felt very unsecured. Last edited by Thavee; 01-08-2006 at 12:25 AM.. |

Some tips: - Alternate the viewing angles, and take shots from outside the car. - Have the car do something else than going straight. - Mute this horrible music and let the engine sing. Now, that might pick-up the interest factor a bit... |

I didn't actually watch the whole thing, but it was a little flat. I was mainly skipping through trying to see if I could recognise anything
