What do you lust for? (keep it clean)

Okay, I'll admit the title is a bit click-bait ish, but there really is no other title that comes close.

I am lucky and at my ripe old age, I have everything I could really ask for. Family, friends, retired, travel, no debt, great health, etc. I thank my lucky stars every day and I am not really wanting for anything more in my life....until:

Today, I saw a 2000 or so E39 M5 in front of me while I was driving. It looks like it had just been detailed and the owner has kept it looking like brand new. I got a brand new 1997 540i followed by a 2003 540i with m-tech package so I've driven the amazing E39 for over 10 years between the two cars. I always toyed with the idea of getting an M5 of that era but my practical side kicked in and stopped me. I can afford it. I've got an extra spot in the garage, but I just couldn't justify it in my mind until I saw this beautiful example of one of BMW's finest achievements today on the road. I instantly wanted to pull the guy over and write a check for whatever amount would get him to say yes! Lust is the only word that comes close to my emotion at that moment, hence the title.

So, do any of you have that thing, practical or not, that makes you feel the way I described? Maybe a car, but it could be anything really. Keep it clean so this thread has any chance of making it to page 2!

A vacation home on a big lake with a boathouse and dock. Someplace where it's warm enough to use it most of the year. Unfortunately, we don't have near enough money to think seriously about something like that. Plus a vacation place like that would have to be close, and there is no such lake anywhere near us. But I can dream.

Lust.

Hmmm.

My youth/health/body?
Her youth/health/body?
To be independently wealthy?
A Ferrari 458 converted to manual?
A nice house on a couple of acres down a nice winding private road?

That'd just about do it.

Given what you have in your current garage, that's not much of a stretch. For you, I'd choose a home on a private airstrip with your own P-51 Mustang.

These are not XKE V12s for which you lust, but they are overlooking the ocean. Pictured are 12 of the 16 XK-SS cars produced in 1957 by Jaguar all gathered in one place at Pebble Beach. The beautiful XKE was a future dream when these cars were built. Possibly some design cues for the XKE came from these beauties.

Edit: I found a home overlooking the ocean that would pair nicely with the XKE V12. Now I'm wondering if this is your dream or mine!!

I'm too old to be getting a pilot's license now. Anyway, while a P-51 is more attainable just became there are lots out there relatively speaking, any warbird would have to be Navy! Off the top of my head, a Douglas SBD dive bomber.

Speaking of stretch, 10 years ago I would have said a Ferrari convertible, but Ferraris -- while beautiful -- are just too flamboyant for my taste.

And your choice of a pristine E39 M5 isn't a while lot of stretch either, is it?

I no longer get much pleasure from things. I enjoy fixing some stuff, but it is the fixing not the thing.

Relationships are about all that matters anymore. Its why I hang out here.

Really it's not. I'm able to do it. I'm just too practical for my own good. But when I saw that beauty driving down the road....wow.

Hmmm, just that good ppl flourish and evil/hateful ppl...disappear. It's incredible the amount of really distasteful ppl on forums such as FB saying things online that they wouldn't dare say irl and the sheer stupidity of them as they usually use their real face/name/place of work/etc. Get rid of all those ppl and the world will instantly become a much, much, much better place, oh, and the evil overclass and their puppet politicians.

Ok, more to the pt haha, I don't really have an object to lust after atm. I guess wanna be financially independent, doesn't mean I wanna have 10 supercars in the garage, but never having to care about money again.

Not a million dollar item, but Z3M's are starting to appear in my dreams - and is it me or is there one on like every 4th page of the new bimmerpost? Yeah, that, and garage space for it. Oh, and world peace - gotta put world peace in there at least 3rd.

For about 1.5 years I lusted after a G87 M2 and was able to make it a reality with buying one in January.

Recently took my 2 boys (8 and 11 years old) to Chicago for a boys trip. It was one of the best experiences of my life getting away with them. I want to do a lot more of that while they still want to hang out with me.

Back to the real question of this thread: I am guilty of lusting after a Porsche GT3 RS. I got a little taste of one on a track in Vegas and now it would be the first car I would get if I won the lottery (maybe I will buy one later in life after I sure up retirement savings).

Something my wife and I lust for (and hope to make a reality) is buying a lake property within a couple hours of our current home.

I would like to get back to being happy and enjoying life.
Dont get me wrong, I love my job, my wife, my dog, and my parents.
I just don't get that thrill like I used to going out to dinner, or traveling or even taking a nice top down cruise along the Gulf.

The pandemic really changed me. It made me have a resting bitch face all the time and I hate it. I just dont know how to snap out of it.

Sorry, dont mean to get all emotional and mushy on you all

Haha, that reminds me of when I was being silly years ago and sang my made-up song during one Christmastime: "All I want for Christmas is a...Ferrari...599...GTB...Fiorano!!!"

Santa didn't listen. Damn him.

I feel much of what you are saying. Things that I remember providing more joy in the past, don't feel as fun or enjoyable. I initially placed all the blame on how the pandemic changed us, but I have a lingering question around getting older: is this simply what aging feels like?? That's where my mind goes.

It is a really good thing that you are acknowledging this and putting yourself out there. I hope things perk up for you.

I get this. Wifey has conference in Sandy Eggo this coming June. Pre-pandemic, I was all about traveling, especially someplace cool like SD. But now I'm dreading the trip. Not specifically because of Covid (we've been on flights to CT and that didn't bother me). But more an aversion to travel itself. I used to enjoy it. Now it's a zoo. Once I'm there, I'm fine. Just the travel part that gets me. That and being away from home. Maybe that's a symptom of retirement, where I spend most of every day at home. Now it feels weird to not be home.
