I just picked up a 2021 BMW X1 xdrive. New to BMW's but how do I know if it has remote start? Also the automatic door locking once you get out of the vehicle. I think I have all the options clicked. It says the car will lock in a while? I've left the car open and even one hour later still hasn't locked. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

about 99.99% sure no remote start as it’s only aftermarket and requires a fob
to be left in car. unless the dealer/seller told you about this, you probably don’t have it.

auto locking? can’t say i even heard of this feature. why would you even want this? sounds like a hassle tbh. just lock it yourself when you get out.

My 2018 X1 locked when I was washing the car today with all the doors closed and key fob in my pocket.

Log into the BMW app and check if there is a button for remote start. My 2018 X1 does not have remote start. The feature may depend on the country/region.

Go back and reread the owners manual (either the paper back version, the version embedded in iDrive, or the downloadable PDF to your device of choice from the BMW website)…to make sure you understand what you have and how central locking works.

We (at least I don’t) know which central locking features you have…but if you have comfort access or auto locking…you need to have the fob on your person. If you have auto lock selected, then the vehicle should lock after you’ve walked outside the prescribed perimeter. if you still have the fob on your person, it will also UNLOCK when you walk back into the prescribed parameter. Can’t tell from your writing if you had the fob on you when you came back to check if the vehicle locked…if you did, then it unlocked as you walked back to the car.

There’s also a feature on some BMWs that will auto lock the doors if you’ve unlocked them but never opened the door, the car will relock itself as a safety measure. Make sure if this is selected in iDrive that you’re not assuming that is auto locking your car as you walk away…it’s not. See screenshot below…read the definition that appear on the right side of the display screen.
