2016 X1-Fuel Injectors and Low compression

Hello!

I come to you all for help and guidance. I have a 2016 X1 for 75,xxx miles. Last week vehicle started displaying "secure vehicle from rolling". I googled that problem and said Ill get around to it later.

Last Friday my wife was coming home early in the morning and got the check engine light and yellow triangle. Vehicle was idiling horribly and would hardly accelerate. Took to BMW as all indy shops are very backed up and we need the vehicle fixed.

BMW said it was a fuel injector. I haggled them down on price and told them to fix it. Then the injector was not in stock. Injector comes in today and apparently did not solve the problem. The head tech and mechanic were bore scoping the enging and thinking the vehicle has low compression. I find the fuel injector and low compression issue kinda crazy for this year model vehicle.

Have you all seen/heard any issues like this?

How do you know you have low compression? Did you have each cylinder checked for compression?
Are you using top tier gas? Have you try using a fuel cleaner like Liqui moly jet tron or valve cleaner? You may need to check and change spark plugs. You may have a bad ignition coil. I really think a bad injector is very unlikely.

I had idling problems on my x3 and I changed spark plugs and ignition coil. Problem gone.

Ahhh....fault diagnosis by component replacement. Works in many cases, but not all.

I agree that a fuel injector is highly unlikely.

I’m coming from the tuned ecoboost world and the car didn’t exhibit any of the same problems my truck did when coil packs went bad or spark plugs weren’t gapped right.

This is definitely more than a rough idle. I am having to go off what BMW is saying but I’m very leery of what’s going on now.

Just got a call from BMW. They are saying when the injector went bad, fuel was still flowing in that piston, and has now bent the piston.

They are escalating it to the goodwill program through BMW to see if they will pay to replace the motor.

Surprised, yours is the first blown motor story I've read here. Is your car mechanically stock?

Owned since new with regular & right weight oil changes?

Yes completely stock. Bought it with 8,000 miles on it. Regular oil changes with correct weight oil. Wife drive 100 miles a day on interstate, not much stop and go.

BMW goodwill program declined to repair or even help at all with the repairs. I opened a claim with BMW NA and she basically said im probably not going to get anywhere either.

Not sure what my next step is here.

It's obvious, get a second opinion. Bring your vehicle to a bmw indy shop and have them access the problem if it's repairable or you need to replace the engine. It will be cheaper than the dealer

It very much sounds like a bent conrod. If that has happened (hydraulicing) and the bore of said cylinder is badly scored and piston and rings are broken, then you would need a rebore. Perhaps a new short engine would be the cheapest option.

So I have bitched, moaned, and groaned enough that BMW NA is willing to pay 40% of cost.

Pricing has come now frim high 17K to roughly 8500K. I am still not happy though...

$8500. Ouch. Still seems high but it's the stealership, so....... I'm sure $8500 comes with a warranty huh?
