So the actual surfaces and what you touch seem nicer in the VW, but I suspect over a decade the BMW will hold up better, especially with a little maintenance. The X1/X2 being Mini based just spells disaster though, at least if looking at used Minis is any sort of indicator. |

That's weird. Why would this one have the electronic shifter and not the manual one?

A cheaper vehicle with a FWD platform, with less HP, unconfortable, not a true xDrive, etc... progress? Nope. Terrible. |

Here is a 2018 X1 xDrive 20d M-sport with paddles and the ugly shifter: https://www.blocket.se/vastmanland/B....htm?ca=15&w=3 And here is a 2018 X1 xDrive 20d M-sport with paddles and the nice shifter: https://www.blocket.se/dalarna/BMW_X...=15&w=3&last=1 What's the difference?? (Edit: From the VIN the nice one is about two months newer and has a different type code.) Also note that the X2, just like the X1, will come with either 7-speed DCT or 8-speed auto depending on engine. Last edited by Weiman; 01-18-2018 at 01:07 PM.. |

I sat in the blue one at the auto show today. It's a full zoot M Sport with a leather dash . . . I was actually pleasantly surprised at how nice the interior was for its class (read: compared to a Q3, not a 5 series. Of course it won't be up to par with most 3/5/7 series cars).
The automotive market is evolving. You guys complain too much about stupid shit like badges and mirrors. Get over it. If you don't like the X2, they still make M2's and M4'a.

I get the economics of it, and I don't mind them cashing in where they can. I just hope they re-invest those profits into the 'core business' the same way Porsche has used the Cayenne profits to make the 911 and (especially) the Boxster better. Let's hope the G20 returns to form and is more E46 than F30. |

I'm not an enthusiast, and I didn't buy that M4 for HP or 0-60 and certainly not to mod or track it. So yea, badging matters and BMW knows it. I'd say whoever gets my sloppy seconds is getting a well treated and maintained car....

I just got back from the show.
Overall, BMW's display was decent. Mercedes knocked it out of the park, but BMW and Audi were pretty good. Unfortunately, which seemed to be a theme for all 3 manufacturers, 90% of the cars you could sit inside were the lower end models or the SUVs. The X2 was fine. Decent enough looking, decent enough interior, etc. It would be a good purchase for a young family. Same goes for the new X3 M sport they had on display. M5 was impressive, and a lot of people were gathered around the two i8s they had. The Seattle and Vancouver shows I've been to provided a lot more access to the cars. |

Wait is it built in the South Africa plant? Sorry, in light of recent events, I had to make a bad joke. In any event...I am shocked they're building it in Superman colors! Tbh, I probably would never buy one of these, but if it had xDrive and the B58 turbo 6 it would be very interesting!

While I fully appreciate the need for a compact SUV, I really just don't understand the X2, simply because the X1 exists. I mean, have a look at these cars in the profile view:
Take away the labels and ask anyone who isn't a registered member on Bimmerpost (or a BMW employee) to say which is which, and they're likely to insist that they're all the same car in different trim levels! The question is not, "Do you like the X2?" The question is, "Will buyers choose the X2 at a $5k price premium when the X1 exists?"
