X1 mixing flap error - no heat to driver side

Hi, has anyone had issues with their car only heating on the one side? I've had a non BMW mechanic plug into computer system and he says there is an error code for a mixing flap error.
Has anyone had this issue before, and how did you resolve and at what cost? Does anyone have any videos or photos on how to access this mixing flap? Thanks.

Thanks for replying mate. I looked at these previously. The video doesn't show much other than what the flap looks like and what it does. I am after a video of its location and how to access it for removal.
thanks.

you can access from the footwell air duct (we used a boroscope) to check the issue, but there's no way to replace it without removing the entire dash.

i spoke with a friend of mine @ stealership and we discussed about alternative way to fix it: by surgically cutting a portion of abs of the heater assembly (just below the flap motor ( by accessing from the inspection panel into the footwell)
i could theorically be able to reach it and weld back the cam of the motor with epoxy, but is a really risky solution never tried before..

Hi TomasV

I have now a kit ready for the broken shaft - So next time can the repair be done without removing the hole heating unit.
With my kit should this repair be done in 2 hours.
Check www.heaterfix.com
Best regards,
Air-mech

highly recommend Air-Mech's kit

Just repaired 2019 BMW x1 with passenger side flapper motor error 801189.
Initially, I just investigated the complain and said I need to diagnose the issue further, but client decided to take it to the dealer, thinking its covered. That quickly escalated to needing to replace entire HVAC box at $5000. Dealer did replace stepper motor actuator, but problem remained, obviously.

Then I got the car back and removed the stepper motor. At that point I fully expected to find a broken flapper axle. Instead, I found a completely stuck flapper. If you refer to original TSB pics, you will see that this may happen, when flapper travels too far. I put a 12 point socket on the flapper axis and try to move it gently with 3/8 wrench. To my elation, it moved with little force applied. After flap got freed up, it freely traveled the required 70 degrees, so clearly I just needed a stopper fix.

Enter Air-Mech's kit. I ordered it around January 2nd, and had it in my hands January 13th. I am in CT, USA. The kit contained everything I needed to get it installed, including longer screws and two limiting axle extensions, marked L and R. I used the one marked R, but they appeared to be identical.

After clearing codes and recalibrating stepper motors, the car has normal heat again and everything works as it should.

Huge prop's to Air-Mech for coming up with this fix.

The only minor downside to it, is that on BMW x1, the passenger footwell side cover no longer sits flush. The spacer pushes the actuator too far out, and that is the side effect. Its small price to pay.

If he can design a lower clearance version, that would be the ticket for X1.
