New Battery Register
Hello,
I replaced the battery in our X1 yesterday and at the same time I have a couple Permanent Codes PO446 and PO440 (191CO2 and 190F08). I have to take the car in to get those addressed. When I went to register the new battery with Bimmerlink it says to make sure no codes are present. Bimmerlink will not erase permanent codes, I have read that the only fix is to fix the error and then driving will remove the codes from the permanent error list. What happens if I register the new battery with these permanent codes in place? |

I say go ahead and try to register your new battery. If the codes you posted (which appear to be OBD II codes that illuminate the check engine light)…affect battery registration then it will simply fail. If they don’t affect battery registration, then it will go through.
BTW, can you take a screen shot of where it says bimmerlink won’t register a battery if you have fault codes? I can’t seem to find that info.

The listed error codes come up under Digital Engine Electronics (Red Dot). When I click on that, I get the codes listed. Not sure the type of code, they do illuminate the Engine Light (EVAP Codes).
After I press the "Register New Battery" from the screen as shown above. I get the message "if codes are present bla bla bla******" I can either proceed with registration (codes present) or cancel and back out. My screen looks as above but 80Ah AGM, no last battery replacement nor second battery replacement. This would be the first battery replacement. I have an older Bimmerlink and have read the mileage updater does not work. Last edited by Bcborn59; 06-17-2024 at 12:50 PM.. |

Thanks for the additional info. Is your CEL (check engine light) illuminated…or did it illuminate recently and then go away? If so, then again, that is an OBD II code. You can go to this site to get more info…when you enter either the “P” codes or the 6 digit BMW hex code…the issue is related to your fuel tank ventilation. This again, is probably an OBD II code: https://bmwfault.codes/
In regard to the Bimmerlink info…I’ve registered batteries before…but since there was no fault codes…I am unfamiliar with the message that you are seeing. If you get an opportunity to proceed or cancel…based on your fault codes being related to fuel tank ventilation…which doesn’t affect the car’s power/charging system….I’d go ahead and try to register the new battery. Again, if the fault codes prevent registration…then you will have to address them. If they don’t…then your new battery is registered. Good luck.

Reading on the Bimmerlink Forum, earlier versions (2.33.0-5860) of Bimmerlink do not record the battery change mileage.
Is this a problem? Can a dealer input the mileage at a later date using their scanning software? |

Before getting lost in the weeds as to will it or won’t it…do the fields for mileage appear in your BimmerLink app when you go to register the battery?

My Screen looks just as the sample does above prior to doing the registration.
The Bimmerlink site says there was a glitch in recording the mileage at registration in previous versions. The software is now fixed in the latest version 2.34.1-5878 https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2074909 Last edited by Bcborn59; 06-17-2024 at 07:52 PM.. Reason: Added Link |

I registered a new battery in my f06 650ixGC back in Jan/2023 and the mileage updated. A thread came up back then on the f06/f12/f13 forums as to if the mileage was really recorded…and since I had just done it…I re-registered the battery and you can see that there’s 31 miles between the two registrations showing in the two fields. So it appears my version of Bimmerlink and BMW model records the mileage when the battery is registered. BTW, the screen shot in the previous post is from my f15 X5. It is a 2014 and is still on its original battery which is why there’s no mileage listed in either box. I do hook it up to a BMW battery maintainer if it sits for over 3 weeks.

Thanks for that information.
I will give it a try with my version of Bimmerlink and hope all goes well on the F48 Version 2.33.0-5860 I moved the old AGM from this car and moved it to my 2005 330Ci. As it only gets driven 3 months out of a year, I will be picking up a battery maintainer to keep it in check when not driven too. Great to hear!
And in regard to the battery maintainer…it’s worth its weight in gold…not just for maintaining one vehicle…but especially if you have multiple vehicles where one can sit for long periods of time. This includes other equipment , too…like if you have a riding lawnmower that sits unused during the winter, or motorcycles, watercraft, etc. Whether you go with a BMW branded maintainer, or the popular brands (CTEK, NOCO, etc.) they all have quick disconnect jumpers. You can pickup additional connectors to rotate multiple batteries being connected to the maintainer as they sit undriven/unused.
