Technically BMW doesn't even list the stock gap size in ISTA, but I have heard it is around 0.030"-0.032", so as long as it is in that range using whatever the stock plugs are set at as a starting point should be fine.

Also, to be clear, you're running the Stg 2 MM, and not the Stg 2+ MM, correct? The later requires E40-60. Any kind of small misfire can turn into a large one under load esp at high RPM, and put the car into limp mode. I know there's already a ton of spark plug talk here, but what plug and gap are you running--still stock it sounds? Still factory coils? How many miles on them? |

Should I do any troubleshooting or other litmus tests to know it's safe to drive before doing so? Or am I just being ultra conservative here?

Hey guys,
So I have ran into a problem, and I am looking to find out what the cause may be. Here are my mods: Catless Downpipe Charge pipe Intercooler BM3 Flex Fuel Kit Running E30 on BM3 Stage 2 Multi Map with 93 octane tune My problem is when going WOT around 5.5K rpm, the engine cuts the power. It feels like someone stepped on the breaks. I have tried this on 3rd and 4th gear and the result is the same. Outside temperature is between 40-45F. I don't get CEL or anything and the car drives normally right after. I can do pulls 80-90% throttle just fine. This is only at WOT. If I am driving 80-90% throttle, it goes normally until redline. Any ideas what this could be? I am assuming it's the HPFP but I don't know. I don't have any logs at the moment but I can do some logs if it would help. Thanks. |

a log would confirm if its hpfp.
another potential cause that is less obvious is misfires due to weakened ignition system or spark blow out at max boost. you could correct spark blow out by decreasing the spark plug gap.

I will try to do a log and will need help reading it bc I wouldn't know what I'm looking at.
Also, if I need to get a hpfp, are there any advantages of going with Dorsch stage 2 compared to stage 1? I am planning on staying with the stock turbo. |

I have stage 1 on stock turbo. No reason for stage 2.

Updates: Sorry for the late update, dorch got back-order cost me a loooooong time, also I had a family issue and working issue got me stopped working on the car and Just got back to it couple days ago. Here is what I've done since hpfp issue happened. 1. Turn spark plugs back to new borch OEM (oem gapped). datalogs shown not related 2. Got a set of new OEM injectors(original ones are in perfect condition), new Eldor coils(old delphi are working good). datalogs shown not related 3. Checked boostleaks, hardware connections, Maf sensors, hpfp sensors, O2 sensors, EKPM(switched to secondhand bought from ebay then back to old one). switch back to OEM T-map sensor from 3.5 bar continental one, datalogs shown not related. 4. then the final one LOL, I put dorch stage 2 hpfp on when it arrived, and datalogs shows fuel pressure is perfect now. Also the car feels more powerful with stock tune. It turns out the problem is the last thing I will consider --- HPFP. Older one is not perform consistently or let's say it fails under pressure. And I was having "cutting power" issue same as you posted. If I pushed too far, it would turn into misfire/limp mode. smoked exhaust, weird smell. Please noted my car is low mileage and only daily since I bought it. All other parts are in great condition. Conclusion: 2018 BMW M2 hpfp does fail!!! After testing stock tune with new hpfp, I flashed stage 1acn then stage 2 acn maps and the problems never come back. (Just knocks at around low rpm every WOT). No CEL no codes, I blame on CA 91 gas. Any suggestions? thanks. 5. I installed FlexFuel kit and ready to give Stage2+ MM a try. Next I'm planning to run 3 tank E40mix then 1 full tank pump 91gas just to lubricate/clean the fuel system, learned from this forum. Do I need to flash back to 91 tune at gas station or stage2+MM map will auto adjust it. If running just Stage 2+ E30 map only, would flexfuel sensor function still work? Thanks a lot guys! Cheers! |

I’d also get the Bend Calibration fuel filter to help protect all the new parts you just put on. |

Also it Looks like the only downside of MM is it would stop me to add more E85 (to clear timing) for lower power map. for example add up to E40 just to run E30/93 map. |

As far as I know you flex fuel sensor won't work with regular stage 2+ map. It has to be the MM. I'm going to order the stage 1 hpfp since I don't plan to upgrade the turbo. Were you also getting knock at low rpm at wot before the hpfp upgrade? |
