Brake fluid?
Hey Gents,
Wondering if any of you guys have done any brake fluid service. My car is starting to bling more persistently for it's 2 year old brake fluid flush. Between covid,me not wanting to leave my car around, and my JB4 installed....I figure I'll just do it myself when I swap over to my summer tires in a month or so. The cost of the fluid is pretty cheap. Anyone think of upgrades? I don't see anything really listed, and honestly don't need any special brake fluid (since they stopped making super blue and super red there's also no point it changing it to different kinds). |

I just got my x2 but haven't looked, I'm hoping my kit for my F33 works on the X2. It makes brake fluid flushes easy. I just used regular LV Pentosin brake fluid.

Yeah I have a little motul brake bleeder system.. Just need to confirm the cap to the reservoir. A liter of bmw fluid is like $33. Fcp had this big chart that showed most dot4 pentosin had the same boiling points until you went with the race fluid... I'm leaning on just keeping the bmw brand but my instinct is to just get something like liquimoly or ate brand. It looks to be pretty close to the same so bmw just seems easier to know I'm not "mixing" even though it'll be a full flush..

Yeah I got the Motul system and the Pentosin from FCP Euro. The Motul's at my exwife's garage, I haven't made it over to see if it fits. I'm picking my son up tomorrow for the weekend, I'll check then. yes, I keep most of my tools there since she's got a two car garage. I store my winter setups there as well. She just makes me do her winter/summer swapovers on her car as storage fees. I keep my daughter's car stuff there too.

Any standard OEM equivalent is fine unless you need a higher boiling point. I’ve used Motul RBF600 on any car I track but use standard DOT4 for the street.

I ended up only using three bottles of the 12oz brake fluid. I used my motul system, but it still bled the brakes pretty slowly (I thought the fluid moved faster from my memory, but I haven't flushed brakes in three or more years now since I usually have someone around to pump brakes).
I started with the rear passenger (furthest and then to shortest). so I bled almost a full 12oz right away and then worked my way up to the front. The fronts went much much faster (maybe bigger brakes.. maybe closer to the front). Also to note that the brake bleeder screw is 11mm. Very odd number to me. |
