Excessive wind noise

I recently entered the world of BMW owner. I purchased a low mileage 2016 X1. During the test drive I didn't notice it at first but after having the car for a couple of weeks I've noticed a lot of wind noise coming from the passenger side door. Has anyone else experienced this and have you been able to correct the issue.

If it's only one side, have a look carefully at the door seals to make sure they're well fitted and not ripped/distorted.

Maybe also check the window is closing perfectly..

I guess that's not a bug/problem, it is how some BMWs are.

my 2017 X1 28xi is getting huge amount of wind noise when I consider BMW as a luxury brand.
However I learned that lesson when I got X4 as a loaner which is $70K car - almost twice as much as fully loaded X1, just doesn't have acoustic glass to keep it less quite.

It was getting the same amount of wind noise to be honest. Only X5/X6 was way different and the real luxury starts in number 5

Too exaggerated. $70K is not even twice as much as a base XDrive. "Fully loaded" means loaded with every option, it would be around $50K for the X1. Mine is a generously optioned at just over $45K. $35K is lower than a base xDrive28i.

X1 fully loaded is $45K - X4 loaner (it wasn't fully loaded ) but MSRP is $70K

even you compare base vehicles - X1 is $32-36K and X4 is $51K

Other than that, buttons on the steering wheel feels like KIA, no feeling, sound or feeling. If you have used E90 - Chris Bangle era cars, you will understand what I mean.

I will keep buying BMWs because of Motorcycle + Car duo but new era of this car brand lost its mojo/identity.

My old F21 had an issue with wind noise after I'd had a windscreen replacement. Could never get to the bottom of it, but I was glad to see the back of the car in the end as it used to drive me mad.

I also have a low mileage 2016 X1. No wind noise from any of the doors.

If it is the seal, you might also consider applying one of the rubber cleaner/rejuvenation products.

I experience the exact same problem. Noise is comming from the passenger side. First i suspected the panoramic roof for causing it, but after the dealer had re-adjusted it, the noise was still there. Door and window seals seem to be just fine. I'll have the dealer take another look at it soon. Hopefully they're able to fix it, 'cause it's starting to drive me mad...

All I can think of is that the door rubber could be worn off or loose. Have that checked for sure.

As others have said I'd honestly think it would be the seals. Can't imagine what else could cause that issue in only certain posters cars. I've driven my 2016 on long road trips at interstate speeds and haven't noticed any excessive noise whatsoever.

Consider where you live/park as well, I had a Civic parked in AZ for a while and the seals were entirely trashed, along with the clear coat. Surprisingly that was the least reliable car I've ever owned so no love lost there. Seals and obviously most rubbers should be kept supple, if you live somewhere that will dry them out then applying product to them periodically will extend the life dramatically. Please keep us posted if you find what's causing the issue as it could help someone else down the line.

Thanks. I've already checked the rubber seals, compared left and right, they look just fine. Saw this video on yt:
I'm experiencing the exact same high-pitched whistling sound, comming from the passenger area. The guy that posted this video mentions that it turned out to be a faulty windscreen seal. I've got no idea yet on how to find out if this is the case with my car as well.

Wind noise

This plagued us for a year in my wife's 2019 X1. I found there was a noticeable difference in the gap between the glass and the roof in the front compared to the back. I though I would have to replace the seal but I came up with something else. I slid the front glass back and then loosened the 4 bolts that hold the back glass. You have to pull the rubber trim out of the way to see the bolts. Once loose, I moved the back portion of glass forward a little. Tightened it up and then closed the front glass. Then loosen the 6 bolts holding the front glass and moved it forward. ( before moving the front glass I could stick a credit card in the space between the glass and the seal) . Then tighten the 6 bolts once the front glass is in place. I did have to push down from outside to get the glass down far enough. It would be easier with 2 people but I managed myself. Drove it the next day and it was 100% better! I hope this helps someone!
