KW sleeve coilover kit installed
I just installed the KW sleeve coil-over kit, it is an awesome system, the car feels a little bit stiffer but with a very comfortable handling, no bouncing at all and the lower stance makes it very aggressive, I don't have it at the lowest drop to avoid rubbing issues, I still have a couple of turns to max low, check the attached pictures
I only have one issue with this kit, there is a clunking noise on the front coils while turning, I took it back to Active Autowerke where I had it installed and they said that a seal may be missing at the base where the coil stands which is causing this noise, they will be contacting KW to find it out, anybody else has had this issue with this kit?

When I took my car back to AA they took the tires out and showed me where the noise was coming from at the time they turn the steering, it was at the base of the front coils

The clunking noise is most likely from the spring not being seated properly. There is a indent in the top of the strut tower that the coil sits in to keep it secure, if the coil doesn't actually sit in this indent then it will clunk when turning. Happened to me too!
Let me know if that's it! Great kit, I like it a lot! EDIT: Oops didn't see you already got it fixed haha

No, I havent fixed it yet, the technician at AA just showed me where he thought the noise was coming from but suggested to order a seal to be placed between the coil and the base, I am going to take it there again and ask them to check if the coil is sitting properly in this indent you mentioned, I will keep you posted

Did you get an alignment when you kit was installed? Also, last car I lowered I needed a camber kit (also corrected toe). Is this necessary with the KW S/O kit, or full coils???

Yes, I had an alignment after the kit was installed. The problem is still there, I had it reinstalled by Active Autowerke and the noise is still there, the front coils are rotating over their base making this clunking noise, there is no indent on the base to hold the spring, KW will check some pictures of the install to see if my kit is a faulty unit or the installation was made incorrectly which I doubt since it is a simple process, there is no chance of making an error with this installation, I would appreciate any feedback on this issue

So if the original poster still has this noise, it can't be how the spring sits in the upper spring perch/guide support. Post the pics here, and I will see if I can help. Last edited by JM3; 12-09-2011 at 10:51 AM.. |

The tech at AA checked the top indent and the coil is secured there but the base still rotates when the steering wheel is being turned making that clunking noise, I am going to post some pics and a video by Monday so you can visualize where the problem is

If I'm not mistaken, the KW kit also has a small set screw on the side of the adjustment collar to secure the height and prevent the base from rotating.

Take JM3 up on his offer - post pics of the sleeve-over install and respond to his post (or send him a PM) because he'll most likely find what's causing the noise and figure out a way to address it.

I will post some pics of the install on Monday, KW also wants me to send them these pictures so they can figure out if it is caused by the install or a faulty unit, I will send a PM to JM3 to get his advise as well

Did you get your issue resolved? I installed the fronts last weekend on my car. No issues or clunking. Rears will go in this weekend.

Not yet, I am taking it to another shop that IND referred me to, the problem with my front coils is that they are rotating over the base when turning the steering wheel which makes this clunking noise, the base doesnt move, only the coils, can you post some pictures of your install to compare it with mine?

Part #8 is replaced with the KW bushing. Part 10 is not used. I just took a couple pictures of my install.

Mine looks the same installation as yours, dont see where the problem could be, it is such a simple install, it has to be a problem with my kit

Post pics when you get a chance. Also, note that item #4 is reversed in the KW stack compared to OEM due the change in bump stop shape.
