Restraint System Fault
2016 x1.
Just spilled 10oz of coffee across my center console - cup too big for the tiny cup holders - shortly after I received the, Restraint System: Fault in airbag, belt tensioner or belt force limiter. I took apart the center console and cleaned everything. I examined both seatbelt areas and don't see any evidence of coffee but either could have been splashed. Checked out the glove box fuses, the only one (that I could tell) that related to seat belts was fine. Any ideas where to start diagnosing this issue? I do not have a code check comp. Thanks- |

This sadly also happened to me a few weeks ago - full cup of hot coffee spilled into center console area, resulting in airbag error messages.
I cleaned everything I could see without disassembly. Luckily the errors went away the next day. If yours don't clear in the next few days, you should get the codes read. There is an airbag module in the center console area, which may have been damaged and isn't a cheap part. If it's this module, you could try cleaning the pins with electrical contact cleaner before going the replacement route. Hope you get this resolved. |
