Has anyone gone down this road ?
Currently have an X7 which I'm using less and less due to working from home 3 days a week and there is rarely more than me and my wife in the vehicle…. I'm based in UAE and right now the trade in prices are very high and I currently have a choice of 3 fully loaded stock 540 M Sport ….. I usually research cars to death before I buy but I don't have the luxury of much time on these ….. Ive previously had 2 F11 5 series and an X5 in the UK before the X7 here. Thoughts on the downsize and thoughts on the 5 series in its current life cycle ? Cheers.

We currently have both X740i and m550. If it were just two of us, we could get by with just the sedan. Currently children and family travel prohibit downsizing.
The G30 can haul quite a bit of cargo when needed, only downside is larger items sometimes will not fit. The X7 is a 2019 and we were offered within $7500 of what we paid by our dealer on trade for a new one. Due to lack of options on the 40i and ours being loaded think we will keep it until the LCI is out. |

If you are wanting to downsize from full size to a sedan, I'd say it's been an easy transition. It's sporty enough that I'm having fun but still have room for what I need. I did a 24 hour test drive of a previous gen 535 before I got the 2018 g30. I'd say the newer one is a tad less sporty but coming from a big Chevy, I'm not that hard to please on that front.

Couldn't comment on the downsize from the X7 but I've got a 19 plate 540i and it's fantastic. Can fit two toddlers in the back with tonnes of space, comfortable for long drives, plenty of space in the boot. When we go away for longer trips I put a 520l roofbox on the top which lets me take everything under the sun that we need. Could honestly see myself with this car for the next 10 years. One thing that I have heard is the 19" wheels are more comfortable than the 20" that I have.
I think the next 5 series (g60) is due to be released in 23 so only downside is if you want the latest model you might get envy shortly. |

On the g60 causing potential envy, I've got the opposite concern. If I love the g60, I'll feel relieved that I can put 100k+ miles on this one and I know the g60 will available new or lightly used when I'm ready. But if I still prefer the g30, I could see myself trading early for a final year version of the g30 just to extend my time with it. I'm a little worried there won't be a powertrain that's 100% ICE without some hybrid element to it. My age (mid 30s) has always been contrary to my attitude toward new technology. I'm always one of the last to jump on the train.
