R&T: Cadillac ATS First Drive Review Sunday Night At 9:00pm PT/11:59pm ET

It's finally here guys! First review of the Cadillac ATS. With all the talk about the ATS, I'm excited to see what they have to say and how it matches up to the 3-Series.

Perhaps this will provide some perspective of how close and competitive this segment has become (or to some of you, how far BMW has fallen with their new direction.)

What is puzzling to me is Cadillac has said that the e46 is the greatest BMW, and then they make an ATS that is not even as good as an e90? WTH Cadillac?

Nope haven't driven one. And won't more than likely as I don't waste car salesmen's time if I am not truly in the market for said vehicle (I used to sell cars, this is my pet peeve). I have seen the testing numbers. The 335 outperforms the ATS in all categories except skidpad including fuel economy. And I agree with Cadillac (and you) on the e46.

Also, I would take your f30 328 all day over the ATS. And I am no BMW fanboy.

I agree, I wouldn't choose the ATS over my F30, but to say it's "not competition" isn't fair.

I'm going to assume that by your username you own or owned a S2000. Would you rather drive a V6 Mustang that would probably outperform a S2K in most categories in a test, or the S2K? Easy answer right? I'd take the test numbers with a grain of salt.

True I would take an S2K all day over a v6 mustang regardles of test numbers.

I think I expected Caddy to really step up after talking so much noise about BMW. They didn't.

Total Car Score favored the ATS over the G37 and F30 335i:

They went head-to-head with the #1 company in the market segment, and went toe-to-toe, coming out with a car that competes on even terms with the F30 in their FIRST attempt. I think that's very impressive from a company whose closest offering in the segment used to be the Chevy Malibu.

I'm pretty sure they did. Hell, even the British mags were impressed.

It'll lose out in a magazine comparo to the 3 because of its smaller backseat and marginally worse fuel economy but it is without a doubt the closest competition the F30 has right now.
