335 push start

So I got a 335i yesterday! Woohoo!

I test drove two 335i's...both 2007. For the push start, one of them required the key to be put into the slot, and the other didn't.

Is there a reason one of them requires the physical key, and the other allows me to keep it in my pocket?

basically, I bought the car that requires the key to be put into the slot, and I was wondering if the car was defective or something

One of them has comfort access, yours doesn't.

comfort access allows the keyholder to touch the door handles to open the doors and start the car without the key in the slot.

the regular way is what you have. button to unlock/lock and insert into slot and push to start.

CONGRATS! on the purchase

The one that you purchased does not have CA (Comfort Access). This option allows you to open and lock doors without pushing the buttons on your remote. It also allows you to start your engine without the key being inserted in the slot.

On the flip side your battery will recharge while it's inserted in the slot.

I have CA and personally love it. Can't say it's 100% all the time but it works well enough =)

Congrats on the buy!

I'm guessing it's not upgradeable?

Thanks for the quick response, and thanks for the congrats, I love this car! (and side note, this community is really nice as well. Bonus!)

Be glad it's not upgradeable. BMW's CA is not as good as competitors. I regret spending the $500 extra.

Congrats on the car purchase!

I do have comfort access, and I love it! I have no problems with it, other than I have to replace the battery in the remote about once a year or year and half. The battery is about $2.50 from Walmart/Target, etc. The car will let you know when the battery is low, though.

No, not an upgradeable option.

hahaha.. here I had visions of a 1/2 ton Chevy pushing a 335i.

CA is does a few more things without having to touch a key or remote.

Unlocking/locking the vehicle
Unlocking the trunk lid separately
Engine starting
Convenient closing (windows roll up with lock, down with unlock)

If you want to be able to push start a 335i, you'll need the manual transmission. Put the car in neutral and push the car up to about 5 miles per hour (much easier if you're going down hill). Jump in, put the car in 2nd, hit the start button until all the accessories (HVAC fan, gauges, etc.) come on, and let the clutch out. Should start right up.

$500 on a 50k purchase is nothing lol

I for one, hate driving cars without it... makes it feel 'old' or 'less'

all infinitis have them
lexus

why should germans not?
it's annoying that it's an option and not standard.

without CA, can you go to the trunk and open it? or do you need to use the key?

I've never driven owned a BMW without CA so I don't know.

personally find it much easier to touch the handle to unlock, get in and press start (with foot on the brake) then to have to reach in and get my key... not that I can't...just...why do it if you don't have to

Anyways congrats on the purchase

don't let all the negative threads here scare you

What reasons made you get the one you did instead of the other?

It's not the price that's annoying. The unlocking feature works flawless. The locking, however... More than often I have to spend five seconds to lock it, which is unacceptable. Coming from Nissan / Infiniti... Theirs worked flawlessly every, single, time. I would not miss CA.

Then there is something wrong with your CA. Are you just touching the ridges to lock the car?

Mine - and most everyones - works flawlessly.

I had a problem with my sister's Acura because I was using it wrong.

My CA is flawless. Sometimes it locks the doors seconds before I touch the door handle. All I can do is stand there in awe wondering how my car knew I wanted to lock the doors

I get mixed results when I touch the ridges with just one finger. 99.9% success on first touch when I use two fingers.
