Did I mess up my tire sizes?

Bought some michelin ps4s a couple of weeks back in 225 front and 245 rear as that seems to be the recommended sizes for xdrive. However when I pulled off the wheels today, all 4 had 18x7.5 on them (style 719m). So a couple of questions:

1. Does this mean that the only 2 series wheel with the 7.5 inch front and 8 inch rear is the 436m wheel, because the 719m seems to only come in a 7.5 square

2. The 245 rear tires fit but is this safe? I've heard that 235 width is the max for a 7.5 wheel

On my F23 M235, stock is a 7.5 front and 8.0 rear. The all wheel drives use a 7.5 all the way around. The maximum tire width for a 7.5 is 235.

To answer the "safe" question, look in your manual for the rim width. It might be a 7.5/8. If it is an 8, 245 is the maximum width.

I would recommend having the same size tire on an all wheel drive so they wear evenly. After all, all the wheels are getting power, not just the back two.

My 2021 xDrive M240 came with the same tire sizes you mentioned on staggered wheels that are 719. Only the non performance run flats come stock with a square set of 719s.

I see, this explains a lot. My car was an inventory vehicle and came on all-season pirellis with a 225 square. Guess I should have paid more attention to the rim and tire spec on the order sheet.

No worries, if we are not learning something new everyday; what real knowledge do we have then.

If you can switch the backs now for no cost, you might want to consider it. If not, then the turning dynamics will be a hair off for a few 10's of thousands of miles.

Good luck. By the way, did you figure our the width of your rims? Are they 7.5 or 7.5/8?

Good info to know in the future. I hope you can switch them out, but I do not think an extra 4/10 of an inch of width per tire will make a bit of difference as long as the tire fits snuggly on the rim.
