BMW 340i M Sport Package Modification Recommendations
Hey everyone, this is my first time posting in this forum. I purchased a 340i M sport a few months back with 60k miles. I currently have a year warranty one. I am planning on modifying it once the warranty is done. This is my current list:
Stage 1 - Tune - BOOTMOD3 https://www.protuningfreaks.com/coll...0i-m140i-m340i Stage 2 - CTS Catless Downpipe https://www.ctsturbo.com/product/cts...-for-bmw-b58/. Stage 2+ Ideas - Oil Catch Can - Burger Tuning https://burgertuning.com/products/oi...m240-m340-m440 - Cold Air Intake - CTS https://www.ctsturbo.com/product/cts...40-b58-intake/ - Front Mount Intercooler - Chargepipe I would love to know what more should I add or take away from each stage. Thank you so much for your help. Also rim recommendation would be useful as well !! |

Also, unless having better acceleration on a straight line is the only thing you care about, you could consider getting an LSD with an upgraded set of coilovers with good alignment settings if you want the car to handle and grip significantly better. Definitely welcome upgrades especially when adding some power (but even with stock power imfo).

Everyone is going to have their opinion. Mine is do what you like and keep in mind that adding stronger parts doesnt hurt anything. It makes the car better!
I started with the reinforcement mods first, just to make myself feel better once I added more power. DownPipe + ChargePipe Inclosed CAI New Spark with Dinan Packs Then I pumped the power up with MHD Stage 1 (I drive a manual and dont want to deal with clutch slippage in the Stage 2 power) Have fun and enjoy the process! Do research, take advice, but always do you and learn through the process.

You should definitely do a charge pipe and a front mount intercooler.. 100%

A nice fat FMIC is always going to be better, sure I'm not going to debate that, but on a B58 for just stage 1/2+ I can't see it making a noticeable difference.. speaking for myself I've never really seen high IAT's. Even on track I've never felt like any performance degrading (I should've actually logged to have some factual data as I only logged on the road). Oil temps no issues either. I don't live in a super hot climate though so that probably helps. This is all speaking of the B58 ofcourse. I know an N55 is another story when it comes to thermals and the oem chargepipe. I just don't see the point spending x-amount of money for something that is already good enough from factory. Better to put that money in parts that are subpar from factory and on non-M there's quite some things that can use upgrading if you like the car to drive sportier with better feedback, definitely when adding power.

I'm very familiar with the concept of trolling bro, I just don't get why you're wasting peoples time doing it here in particular. If in your eyes you feel a thread or question is stupid or been asked 100x before just ignore it and move on but don't go trolling or be like "use search function noob" imo. We all started from the beginning at some point

and yeah I know it's technically a heat exchanger and yep it's already mounted in the front(rereading my own post I understand it did make it confusing), and even though mounting a larger one is a bit of a pain in the ass in terms of fitment it is possible I seen it done before on a B58. i.e. https://williamsperformance.co.uk/pr...0i-440i-xdrive anyways to the OP, don't waste your money on either that or a chargepipe, ty

Yeah, OP.. waste of money. The real gains for IATs are in the intake manifold but you'll spend thousands to do it.

Keep in mind going catless your car will stink. You get back that 1970's rich carb smelling ride that stings the eyes at the stoplight.
There is a lot of high-flow cat options out there with minimal loss to power. |

Sure, throw BM3 on it with a conservative tune - cheap and effective.
However, I'd first look at optimizing tires, wheels, and suspension.

so i just picked up a stock 440i (b58) in Jan and did things in the following order:
new OEM spark plugs and coils low pro tires and 20's; if i really wan to utilize all that torque i will need to put some much gripier indy firestone firehawk tires back on the rear like i had on my old 3 series. bm3 stage 1 and it was a SIGNIFICANTLY improved power gain over stock. top mount strut bracing thing and sport lowering springs on it so it handles pretty good. then i did VRSF catless DP and it was smelly for about a week but i am now once again used to it. then flashed to bm3 stage 2. I feel like stage 2 is a lot more rowdy and i will probably never go back but it almost feels less functional/efficient in a way. this weekend i am getting powerstop pads/rotors put on i'm not really sure what else i will do to it performance wise after i purchase and install a cat-back exhaust next month. still waiting on my drop in air filter and intake inlet tube to arrive from ECS since they sent it to the wrong address but according to them that is apparently my fault somehow.... i've now talked myself out of the CAI but we will see how bored i get in the coming months/years. Also, i am hoping this b58 doesn't require an OCC like my last FBO e93 eventually did... so far this b58 seems so much more improved over the n54 which i loved but let's be honest kind of had some issues
