That will hopefully never happen. But I'm happy with the M2's price point. A 40k "M" would basically be a Civic Type-R or GTI competition at a time when most enthusiasts are already complaining BMW is turning into Honda in terms of mass appeal.

Agree on both counts. If BMW were to try bring a less expensive M car than the M2 it would have to be based on a 135 hatch.
They would have to call it the 1M hatch.. perhaps 1Mti .or maybe the " 1tiM" or " M1ti"
Tougher than finding a good name for it would be trying to make it reach a $40k price point. I honestly don't think they could do it for less than $42,995.
A 230 with track package , m sport package only is $37,350 and more suspension and more motor would be involved.
