The width of the rim is not the critical dimension, it's the offset that gives clearance. There are some other dimensions that matter, but if the dealer tells you it will fit, it seems like zero risk - assuming they're selling them to you.

You actually want the narrower rims for snow tires. Wide tires will not bite into the snow as well. The narrower the better, in general. Just make sure the overall diameter of the tires you select for them is within a few % of the 20's you have.
