A dealer has to provide a warranty and of course, there is VAT to consider. Also, the dealer has to tie up money and if it takes longer than usual to sell, then it is dead money to the business. With many BMW dealerships, if the car is not sold within a specified length of time, it goes to auction if it is over 3 years old.
