i think what seems to be missing from this discussion is the fact that most of us E9x M3 owners (and i'm sure S5 drivers can echo the same sentiment) don't really care about fuel economy. we bought the car knowing it's a hog. i average about 13.4 mpg in my M3 based on my driving style. personally, i never let fuel economy get in the way of a buying decision. i enjoy driving powerful cars and that's what matters to me. if i wanted something economical, i'd buy a hybrid
