Dual NAM was 2 numbers assigned to the same phone. It was a way for travelers to cut back on roaming charges is they traveled to two areas, predominately.

It had quite a bit of range. I took it on a canoe trip into the really remote Northernmost area of Minnesota. In the middle of a lake, with the lake as an antenna, I had great signal strength. My then-wife knew why that was so - maybe because it was analog...? I can't recall.
