Stock style 285 spacers

I know this is done to death, but in all my searching I've found only conflicting info. I'd like to eventually space my wheels (fronts and backs, ideally equally). I've got a base 328i with the 17" wheel option, style 285. I generally see that people run 15mm spacers on the back no problem, and that "it's definitely safe to use 10mm spacers front and back," but then when I go out to the car and measure with a straight edge, there's about 7mm of space to the ~12mm wide fender lip. Of course, these are runflats with a pretty prominent rubber lip by the rim, and they fall off in width pretty considerably up toward the tread edge. Maybe that's my source of confusion?

What spacers can I actually get away with, front and back?
