Nice din't notice that they changed the kidneys also for the M ones until now. So that's a plus.
But i bet the end product will be quite different from the M235i but i don't think people should expect a new " 1M " in terms of style, Considering BMW is following the same line as all other developers to use as much of the same products for the cars as possible to reduce the production cost.
I clearly remember a thing that opened my eyes to this was, I was driving around at work in one of our company's ford transit connects, Then at the end of the day my friend with an Focus RS came to pick me up we were of to a car gathering somewhere in town so he let me drive it, And the interior was exactly as the connect the difference was the connect had "hard plastic" and the rs "Soft plastic" so at that point i started to seeing the car developers all following the same line to reduce the cost.
