nope actually he is right, let's say you set the temp to 72degrees, the a/c control unit will do what's needed to keep it in that tempreture range, it will either turn the compressor on or off, or add heat where it is needed to maintain the tempreture you inputed. now this should only happen with the auto function and the climate control on, if you turn the entire system off (not just the a/c) and the a/c still turns on by itself then you have a problem other wise it's just the a/c control unit doing it's job.
