This. The primary reason I buy from BMW is that the engine is mounted the correct way (longitudinally, with the crankshaft of the engine running down the length of the car).
As soon as they cheap out (like most every other automaker) and mount engines transversely, they've lost me as a buyer. No amount of marketing-speak and lipstick-on-a-pig engineering band-aids fix a fundamental design problem when it comes to driving dynamics.
