I also found that leather smell linger alot longer, and if you treat it say once every 12/6 months with leather conditioner, then the new car smell / lether conditioner smell will blend in and perhaps replace the new car smell, and you won't know the real difference, thus your car still have 'the new car smell' for a longer period. Did this on my Saab it was 3 and half years old.

Oh btw on subject of 'new car smell' car perfume, I personally found it it yuck, cuase avis/budget used it all the time to deodorise their car (with similar smell and you know its not the real thing), and guess what, they keep putting it on after every hire, and it smell putrid, gosh gotta open those windows to get some air.
