There's always a chance you could hit something on the road & cause a an immediate failure (like slice a sidewall), but the odds of that happening are extremely rare. That kind of thing has happened to me 2-3 times in over 40 years of driving, but no joke I'd be surprised if I have logged less than a million miles of driving in my life.
There's already so little storage space in these cars I just can't take most of that up with an extra tire that 99% probability I'll never need.
