I have the same problem, it's hideous and I hate looking at it, i can't imagine the clear plastic is too much work to remove and if not may be worth polishing it and adding a clear coating of some sort to give it some protection.
Does the x1 share the same cluster with any other models? If so maybe they have a better glass / plastic window?
