I was reading some motivational magazione at my brother's house a week or two ago, and the emotional control was even in there. Give "it" a name, and then use the name to help you at least recognize when said emotional character is present.
I've been seeing a lot of Wreck-It-Ralph of late, but it did help me to tone down the "discussion" with my wife when we went to the whole "I don't know" = "Wede doesn't give a fuck, and not going to help you" routine.
