Another possible solution is a Slime kit stored in the trunk. I did that when I ditched the RFTs on my other vehicle ('07 Mini Cooper S).
Mind you, fixing a flat in winter ain't a whole lot of fun, but then, neither is mounting a spare......
FWIW, I just ordered a RFT winter wheel/tire package for my E90.
